Read through a book like "The Knowledge: How to Rebuild Our World" and you'll see that things could *easily* develop in many different ways. Shortcuts could be taken, intermediate steps skipped.
Just having a little bit of this or that on hand, could saved a LOT of time & effort later when trying to reboot civilization.
It's fascinating to read the various inter-dependencies, and different entry points into different technologies. Apparently the way things happened to develop in our history was NOT the only way things could have gone. And the way different kinds of technology developed? That was accidental as well. We could have had advanced cars but more primitive communications. Or vice-versa.
