  • The music is a bit loud (and modern) so turn speakers down....

  • It's alarming how close the plane lands to neighborhoods.

  • Neil, thanks for that clip!!  Fascinating!  Every time I've landed at LAX I've been in awe of all those lights. I always pray for the pilot & have the greatest respect for how they can handle such a 'big bird'.

Whenever I fly into SFO (or was is LAX?) I am always so alarmed how close the plane flies to the water - it's almost touching it!

    Plane flight is amazing.

  • Anyone planning to land or takeoff in cold conditions with crosswind should
see this video at least a WEEK before their flight, to have time to think about it:

I didn't know it was particularly low. Living here I of course fly in and out pretty much every time I fly. But I've flown into a couple dozen other airports and LAX doesn't seem terribly different than any other non-rural airport.

I've done some landings myself in a Piper Warrior at our several smaller airports and it didn't unnerve me, I mean, you can't see any other way. You can see your altitude and you're plenty high enough over the rooftops on am approach.

Want terror and danger? Try SFO. Runways are waaaaay too close together, plus winds. I would not land there, then again, I'm inexperienced.
