I never saw Bishop Williamson speak like this before , or speak so powerfully. Short interview, but expansing in essence...

    Thanks for posting TD.
Yes, God has given us such a simple solution to all of our problems: the Rosary.
God bless Bishop Williamson for promoting it so tirelessly. I am sure many more people are praying many more Rosaries today because of him, I amongst them.
I believe the Bishop had Parkinson's Disease which probably affected his ability to control his emotions which would have been rather embarrassing for him at times.
    May he rest in peace.

Because of his devotion to her Rosary, surely the Mother of God hastened to Bp. Williamson’s bedside to his defense against the many wicked spirits who would have him to fall. Against Her, they had no chance. Those who were present say H.E.’s agony was mercifully short.

No, he did not have Parkinson’s. It was a genetic condition known as Essential Tremor, nowhere near as serious as Parkinson’s. It does not lead to difficulty in controlling emotions or cause death. It can, however, become more pronounced with age.

If you view the entire interview, the bishop was suffering from a severe cold, perhaps the flu, and was running a fever. The tissue he’s holding is for his runny nose. Note he is bundled up in a sweater and has a red scarf wrapped around his neck. He chose to do the interview anyway despite the fact he probably should have been under the covers in bed with hot tea on the nightstand.

For all his sternness and British stiff upper lip, the bishop’s heart had a seldom seen soft spot at its core, a great compassion for sinners and those beset by affliction.

Are you certain of that? I've seen a number of references to PD over several years.

I seem to recall Fr. Pfluger claiming Bp. Williamson had Parkinson's, and the bishop himself refuted it & said it was Essential Tremor.  I think the references to PD were probably people making bad assumptions because of the visible tremor, or else the rumor started from Fr. Pfluger's erroneous claim.

    Parkinson’s Disease
By Eleison Comments on March 6, 2010

People choosing to observe that kind of thing had noticed that a hand of Bishop Williamson trembles, so for years a rumour had been circulating that he suffered from Parkinson’s Disease. Recently the rumour was given another run for its money. An examination being called for, two weeks ago a London neurologist duly observed, amongst other symptoms, that the muscles of the two arms show no marked difference, and that the trembling occurs when the arm is active and not, as in Parkinson’s Disease, when it is inactive.  The neurologist duly ruled out Parkinson’s and pronounced that the symptoms are rather of Benign Essential Tremor.  (In other words a trembling hand proves that the Bishop has a Malady of Trembling.  Ah, how re-assuring are all the syllables of medical diagnoses!)
However, let nobody be disappointed at this news.  Let them take their pick from a rich variety of ways of not having to take the Bishop seriously.  Some of them actually come from enemies!-

  • I’m quite sure H.E. did not have Parkinson’s. Had it been Parkinson’s, he would have had much more severe symptoms by age 84. He had an Essential Tremor, probably caused by a slight anomaly on one gene. It usually appears in one’s 40’s and can gradually get worse—or not. There is no cure, but a few treatments that can help if it begins to seriously impede one’s life. I don’t know if the bishop’s was treated. The usual is a Beta blocker or low dose benzodiazepine.
It doesn’t matter because I don’t think he has it anymore!
