October, 1999
Dear Friends, Benefactors and Former Retreatants,

How important it is for Nations to recognize Christ as King and Mary as Queen! Recently, a visitor from Venezuela showed me some national postage stamps printed this year in celebration of the 100 th anniversary of his country's consecration to the Blessed Sacrament! Venezuela is a Roman Catholic Nation in which the Church is recognized as the official Religion of the Nation, and Church authorities have a voice in all government deliberations and legislation.
Venezuela is one of only two nations in the Western Hemisphere to which the Blessed Virgin Mary has appeared in body and soul - to the Indian Coromoto in Venezuela, and to the Indian Juan Diego in Mexico. And Venezuela is one of the few nations of the world which still respects human life and prohibits abortion.

Here are citations from five of these commemorative postage stamps in Venezuela this year (1999 A.D.), which clearly manifest a public profession of the true faith:

* Belief in the Most Holy Sacrament is the most fundamental truth of our Holy Religion in which reason is not contradicted but rather verified.
* The Most Holy Sacrament is the continual immolation, the permanent sacrifice of Jesus Christ in the midst of the faithful.
* The Eucharist fills the soul with grace, and infuses into the body the seed of immortality for its last day.
* The Sacred Host is the only sun which gives life and renews individuals and nations.
* The Divine Host is the sole guardian of the heavenly remedy which cures hearts and returns to them the good that had been lost.

What a wonderful thing it is to see the people of this Catholic Country professing their faith publicly, through official government legislation and publications! Quite the opposite, unfortunately, is the situation in the United States. For our Founding Fathers made sure that there would be no official religion in our country; that there would be separation of Church and State; that all citizens would have the right to publicly profess whichever religion they choose, and would have the right to attempt the conversion of others to their religion, both in private and in public.

What are the consequences of the exclusion of the national profession of faith in Jesus Christ and the holy Catholic Faith? The logical consequence is not simply liberty for everyone to practice the religion of their choice, but also the public attack on the true religion, with the laws of the land protecting the right to do so! For example, at present, there is a blasphemous art exhibit taking place at the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York City. The so-called "work of art”  consists of a painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, covered in part with elephant dung and various cut-outs of pornographic images! How is it possible for such blasphemy to take place? The Art Museum argues that it is simply exercising Freedom of Speech and Expression in the domain of Art, as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution!

This situation is absolutely unacceptable, and it is undoubtedly moving God to wrath. It may be that God will soon visit our country with divine punishments! For it is said that Our Lord is very patient in His forgiveness of those who offend Him, but intolerant of those who dare to insult the honor of His Holy Mother! We should pray, then, that Our Lord may send a divine warning to our country in defense of the honor of His Holy Mother, and to wake America up, which has only become a tool in the hands of the enemies of Christ
and His Church.

It is also because of this false principle of Freedom of Speech and Expression that films such as "Last Temptation of Christ" and "Hail Mary" have been allowed to be shown around the county, and to receive the protection of law. Why is it that those things held sacred by Christians are attacked by the enemies of God, even with the authority of the State to protect them? It is clear to us: behind the mask of Religious Liberty, Freedom of Speech and Separation of Church and State is the antichrist movement to attack the true religion established by Jesus Christ, and the joint efforts of the enemies of God to eliminate the reign of Christ the King, and Mary our Queen, over the hearts and minds of men in every nation on earth! These false principles are simply being used by the enemies of Jesus Christ in their attempt to establish a nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr, or human paradise, for mankind on earth, in direct opposition to the Kingdom of God preached by Christ while He walked this earth.

What is striking in all this is that the voice of the Church seems to have been silenced since Vatican II against these modern attacks on Christ, on Our Lady and on Christendom in general. Always throughout history the Church has raised her voice whenever various powers or nations made attacks against Christ and the Church, for these attacks are ultimately a tool of Satan against the salvation of souls. But then there are some people who have accused the Church of getting involved in temporal matters when it really wasn't any of her business. These people, who are also the advocates of Separation of Church and State and Religious Liberty, feel that the Church should restrict her activities and admonitions to the purely spiritual domain and not to material or political matters.

This attitude, however, goes contrary to the very role of the Church, which is to bring Christ to the world, and to care for the salvation of souls. Because man lives in the world, it is necessary sometimes for the Church to protect his soul against social conditions which would endanger the salvation of his soul. Pope Boniface VIII (1294-1303) clearly teaches this doctrine in his famous bull ‘Unam Sanctam’, of November, 1302, when he says:

"As there is one holy Catholic Church, so it has but one Head, the invisible Head, Jesus Christ, whose visible representative is the Pope. There are two swords in the Church, the temporal and the spiritual. The spiritual, Christ has entrusted to the priesthood, the temporal to the kings; but the temporal, being inferior, is subject to the spiritual as higher, and if it departs from its duty, it belongs to the spiritual to recall it to the right path."

And it is to note that the Bull is made up in great part of citations from St. Bernard, St. Thomas Aquinas and Hugh of St. Victor.

Thus, it is a mystery why the Popes and Bishops of the past thirty years have not spoken out as the Church has done in the past against the violent attacks on Christendom by the errors of Communism and Socialism, Liberalism and Modernism, Religious Liberty and Freedom of Conscience, and Separation of Church and State.
Surely we need to pray and undertake voluntary penance so that the Pope will have the grace and courage to defend publicly the rights of Christ the King and His Holy Church.

But what can be said of parents who fall into the same negligence when they do not protect their children from the modern attacks on their young souls? So many parents allow anti-Christian literature, movies, entertainment, etc., to enter their home, to the great spiritual and moral detriment of their children. In particular, they allow the watching of television, which not only causes stagnation of the mind and powers of imagination, but also constitutes (in general) an occasion of sin, both for them and for their children.

Surely, the TV is one of the main tools used by Satan today to draw people into a state of serious sin. And on this point, it is interesting to note a text from the Apocalypse, which some writers think may apply to the television. In Apocalypse 13: 15 we read:

"And it was given him to give life to the image of the beast: and that the image of the beast should speak, and should cause that whosoever will not adore the image of the beast should be slain.”

And isn't it amazing that, even in the poorest of households, and in some of the poorest cities and countries of the world, people who are going without most of the modern conveniences almost always have their TV!

In conclusion, let us all persevere in our daily Rosary and true devotion to Our Lady, thus fulfilling her requests at Fatima. Let us in particular be faithful to the sanctification of the First Fridays and First Saturdays, even if we have already made them. And if we are able to attend a 5-day Ignatian Retreat, let us not hesitate to phone the Retreat House and make our reservations! For Our Lord has not given us special graces in these latter days simply to be satisfied in doing the bare minimum, but rather to make more — even heroic —efforts in assisting more often at Holy Mass, Holy Hours,  Benedictions, Adorations, Public Processions etc., in order to make reparation and satisfaction for the sins of the world in union with Christ, and to pray for sinners, that they may receive the grace to repent and convert themselves back to Christ and His Church.

If we do these things, always remaining faithful to our duties of state, we will be faithful in doing our part in rebuilding the Church and working for the social reign of Christ the King and Mary our Queen.

God Bless you always,
Fr. Stephen DeLallo
