Catechism of the Sacraments - FULL of HOPE!
    Written by a priest.

    Excerpt:
    The Sacraments #2 Sanctifying Grace
Spiritually everyone is in a STATE. There are two states: The State of Grace or the State of Sin.
They are exclusive - you cannot be in both states.
State comes from the word that means to stand. When you are in a state you are not moving. You
stay that way. That is why we saw that grace is habitual. It is something that you have. When you
have grace in your soul you are in the state of grace. If you do not have grace you are in the state of
sin. We begin life in the State of Sin “For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my
mother conceive me.” - Psalm 50. This does not mean that my mother sinned. It means that when
she conceived me I was in the state of sin. This sin comes from Adam the father of the entire human
race. He is our origin. Therefore it is called Original Sin. It comes from our origin.

Adam was made in the image and likeness of God. Image and Likeness are two different things.
The Image of God is natural. It is part of our nature. When God made Adam He used Himself as a
model. God is a spirit with an intellect and a will. His two powers are mind and will. Gods mind is
superior to our mind. God does not think. God knows. His will is all powerful. But in his image he
gave Adam a spiritual soul with a mind and a will. The soul does not have parts. It is not composed.
Thus it cannot decompose. It will last forever. It is immortal. It participates in God’s eternity. The
image of God cannot be lost. Angels were also made in the image and likeness of God.
The Likeness of God is supernatural. God is holy. We say Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus. Holy, Holy,
Holy. The Father is Holy. The Son is Holy. The Holy Ghost is Holy. To be like God you must be
Holy. Sanctifying Grace makes one Holy. It makes one like God. Sanctifying Grace is lost by sin.
Adam Sinned. He lost Grace. He became unlike God. He lost the likeness to God and therefore
could not pass it to his descendents. A man may be very rich but if before he dies he squanders his
wealth by gambling or loses it by bad investments. He know longer has it. His children inherit
nothing. This is what Adam did. He had the great treasure of Sanctifying Grace. He lost it by
sinning. His children did not inherit it.
There is much confusion on this. God said “Let us make man to our image and likeness:” --
Genesis, ch. 1. God meant for every man to be made in His image and Likeness. BUT because
Adam became unlike God. The rest of us were made in God’s image but not his likeness. “in sins
did my mother conceive me.” Sin makes us unlike God. When we are made we are not holy. We are
sinners. Adam and Eve were made in the image and likeness of God. We were not. We were made
in the image of God but we were unlike God at our conception, we were conceived in sins.
Lucifer was a high ranking angels. (Angels were not made equal, neither are men. Equality is a
masonic fallacy. This masonic lie was enshrined in the American Declaration of Independence. “We
hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...” No one was created anywhere
near to being equal with the Blessed Virgin Mary.) Lucifer led a rebellion against God which many
angels followed. His cry was “I will not serve.” St. Michael replied “Who is like to God!” St.
Michael himself was like God. That is not what he meant. He meant who is equal with God. Who
can defy God by refusing obedience. He was outraged by Lucifer’s pride and arrogance and rose up
to defend God’s honour. Followed by many angel heroes he went to war with Lucifer and defeated
him. There was now no place for Lucifer. God was obliged to create Hell as an abode for Lucifer
and his followers. And St. Michael cast him into Hell. They became devils.
There was no plan B for Lucifer. Angels have more powerful intellects than men. They consider
everything and realize the consequences that there actions will have. They do not repent. They are
not capable of being sorry for what they have done.

Adam ruined the original plan of God which was that we would be conceived in the state of grace.
God came up with another plan so that grace could be restored to us. He determined to send His
only begotten Son into the world to redeem us, and to invent the sacraments to restore us to grace.
To make us again like Him. We can be like God!The Sacraments #2 Sanctifying Grace
