  • Hello all, the members here on CathInfo since the beginning have struck up something in me that wasn't as big to me before I got on here. A love of books! I have been recommended books on here from Henry Makow to E. Michael Jones and I've even made myself a list of books people have recommended me on here as I've dived into these books and authors. I've even myself recommended a book or two. But, those were PDF formats of books and not physical. So, I am asking all people on here what books they could recommend to me. Even just a title of a book and it's author and I will do my best to buy it and read it! This will be so much fun for me because I love to read and I love to learn. Have a book to recommend? I would love to hear it!

Are you looking for any specific recommendations (i.e. a specific genre or subject matter) or just general recommendations?
'Cause I wouldn't want to recommend Jurassic Park if you're looking for more serious reading that has to do with religion. :laugh1:
But one book I can recommend right off the bat is C.S. Lewis's Four Loves. I also had to read his Mere Christianity in high school, which was compelling, as I recall. Obviously, though, all his theological musings should be taken with a grain of salt, as he wasn't Catholic.
Uhhh, just pretend this is a clever valediction XD

I never read Jurassic Park. But, the movie was pretty good :laugh1:  :laugh2:. Yes, I am looking for more serious reading. Books that are from Religion to Conspiracy theories. I want novels that teach the truth. Books about traditional catholicism, history, the nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr, etc. More serious books like these. The book recommendations can be fiction. But, I would highly prefer recommendations of non-fiction books. I wrote down your recommendations of C.S. Lewis's books. I am not as familiar with C.S. Lewis, I'll look more into these books. They do look awesome! I did just read that he never formally entered the church which is unfortunate. But, nonetheless, I thank you for these recommendations.

I am reposting this statement. I noticed this morning that this forum post isn't getting many people. I am asking for some good ole book recommendations. I wanna make an entire library one day full of catholic books. But, that's just a dream. Hope people have more to offer. God bless.

  • I want novels that teach the truth. Books about traditional catholicism, history, the nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr, etc.
What you asked for is a very good description of the book: Who Shall Ascend?
In it, he will teach you of these things and many more things pertinent to the faith. If you read it, please let us know your thoughts on it.

I also recommend The Glories of Mary by St. Alphonsus De Ligouri
"But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men." - Acts 5:29

The Highest Principle in the Church: "We are first of all under obedience to God, and only then under obedience to man" - Fr. Hesse

Once you've read enough of E. Michael Jones and other astute scholars of the malevolent Jєωιѕн psyche and its profound impact on our culture, you'll be able to go back to films like Jurassic Park and plainly see the malevolence of a hyperkike like Spielberg writ bold and large, over and over again in their poisonous works.

Take for example, the wormy, nebbish, self-serving lawyer character in the film. A trope that practically screams "Jєωιѕн," yet Spielberg not only goes out of his way to give the character a decidedly non-Jєωιѕн name ("Donald Gennaro"), but he has this inverted caricature spinelessly abandon two children to a grisly death while he goes to hide in a toilet while reciting - wait for it - the Hail Mary.

The debasement of the Jєωιѕн stock character-turned-explicitly-Catholic complete, he dispatches him in the most ignominious way possible:

Soon enough, it'll be hard not to spot stuff like this.

As for other book recommendations: Anything by Chesterton, anything by Belloc, anything by Tolkien - the Middle Earth works, of course, but also his translation of Beowulf (a recent acquisition of mine, and truly wonderful).

For Catholic nonfiction, I find Warren H. Carroll's writing to be very good. His history books teach not only about Catholicism throughout history but also about the impact Catholicism has had on history as well as how non-Catholic societies have impacted Catholic culture.

I would also recommend the writings of St. Thomas More, as they provide insights into how laypeople can better practice their faith and are humorous at times as well (I always love a saint with a sense of humor).

Another excellent nonfiction book is Asia Bibi's Blasphemy: A Memoir - Sentenced to Death Over a Cup of Water. It tells the true story of Asia Bibi's struggles as a Pakistani Catholic after being imprisoned for "blaspheming" against Mohammed. Because the case is so recent, it really gives the reader a good look at how Catholics are still being persecuted to this day and how messed up Mohammedanism is. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17464989-blasphemy?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=M8DUtYf29p&rank=1

Some of my favorite Catholic novels are:
Beyond the Desert Gate by Mary Ray. It's part of a series but also works as a standalone novel. It deals with being a Catholic when the Church was still young. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/433863.Beyond_the_Desert_Gate?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=m2DZbW0RXI&rank=1

Crusader King by Susan Peek. It's a novelization of the life of King Baldwin IV, but as I recall it is fairly historically accurate. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1889635.Crusader_King?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=kJd0VJmhG1&rank=2

The Hidden Treasure of Glaston by Eleanore M. Jєωett. It revolves around Arthurian legend and the Holy Grail. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1135335.The_Hidden_Treasure_of_Glaston?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=TYmbAutap4&rank=1

A Soldier Surrenders by Susan Peek. It tells the story of St. Camillus de Lellis, who remains one of my personal inspirations. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17464989-blasphemy?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=M8DUtYf29p&rank=1

I also enjoy Mary Fabian Windeatt's Lives of the Saints series; even though they're children's books, the style is simple and engaging even for adults. https://www.tanbooks.com/mary-fabyan-windeatt-20-book-set.html

I also found St. Edmund Campion: Hero of God's Underground by Fr. Harold Gardiner, SJ to be very inspiring. https://inhisname.com/edmund-campion-hero-of-god-039-s-underground-25899?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkv-a2arc6QIViMDICh14WAwxEAQYASABEgKgEvD_BwE

Very interesting. I never thought of that scene in that way. Very inciteful! That lawyer sure is a Jєωιѕн stock character-turned-explicitly-Catholic.
