  • In 1991 I was making $22.00 an hour, and I didn't have to put myself in debt for $100,000 to do so.

  • I read this article yesterday and it scared the poop out of me. As a full time student now in her second year, I have only a debt of 2400 dollars for my freshman year and hopefully I wont have to borrow any this year. I am getting all the grants and scholarships I can and I work hard to keep my 4.0 GPA. I plan on getting my teacher's degree. But even with an income of less than 15k a year with 5 kids and no spouse, it is still extremely hard to recieve scholarships. The only reason I acquired my freshman debt was to pay for rent since my ex is 4 months behind in child support. Anyway, I use this story to keep a sober view of college. I have always wanted to get my degree so I am striving to fulfill this dream of mine. If I could enable people with a love of learning especially in my field then I would have a great job that I would love to get up in the morning and do. Poor girl, surely sfter 20k something must have gone of in her head, maybe bad dreams something to alert her to the debt she was acquiring.

  • Yeah, what I think of when I read this story is

Which is worse -- the fact she is 100K in debt just for student loans, or the fact that she's not much more likely to make a good salary (or even have a job!) than a person without a degree?

I mean, if her 100K degree made employers beat a path to her door with 80K/year jobs, then it would be different. But it seems like that's not the case.
