  • I have been hearing the same thing for as long as I have had access to the internet and no collapse ever happens. It only gets slightly worse every year but never any apocalypse scenario.

I agree, however that might mean we are a little closer now to the collapse.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • I think it will happen in 2017. Right before it happens will be the start of a global pandemic or, at least, a very bad epidemic in the U.S.
Blessed be the Lord my God, who teacheth my hands to fight, and my fingers to war. ~ Psalms 143:1 (Douay-Rheims)

  • The Fed just announced a corporate bond purchase program so that should go on into next year.  After that they will introduce "helicopter money" so it doesn't seem that a collapse is possible prior to the election.  Mid to late 2017 might be a possibility.

For the last twenty years I have been told to get out of the market because of the imminent economic collapse.  Since that time my (mildly aggressive) investments have doubled almost three times (not including additional fund contributions).  In other words, a $100,000 investment then is now $800,000. Glad I didn't listen. Carry on.

Another way to look at it is, when the collapse happens now you will have a lot more $$$
    to lose.   Good Luck!
    Please pray for my soul.

Eh. I like my odds. By chance are you a motivational speaker?

No, not at all I am much to shy to speak in public.  I don't understand why you ask.

I'm not following your logic. What I know is that 20-25 yrs ago, what you could purchase for than, let's say $100,000, will cost you many times that now. Numbers are just that... numbers. And will digital numbers feed you when the collapse happens?

P.S. I wish I would have invested in gold when it was under $200 and I didn't have so many mouths to feed. Now that would have been an investment!

It's not my logic, it's the historical math of the market. The market over the last hundred years has outpaced inflation threefold-plus. So given that, using the example of the $100,000 balance twenty years ago, today with inflation it would be closer to $200,000. But the value in today's dollars is still $800,000 due to the fund growth. In my particular case, when considering the employer match over all those years, my actual out-of-pocket contribution to the funds represents less than 20% of its total worth.

    I like that return.

Yes there could be a collapse. I realize that. I am not Pollyanna.  But investing is a bet whether its REIT's, precious metals, stocks, or cash under the mattress.  I am going to bet on a century long track record of growth in the long term over betting on a collapse.

We'll see. Regardless of whether I have it or not it is just money. Easy come, easy go.

  • JPM, thanks I appreciate your positive outlook!

I guess if the worse happens we will all be in the same boat, however, I am going to make sure my pitchfork is really sharp.

  • Also right, is that "economic growth" has no meaning to Main Street anymore.
When economic growth is nothing more than loose money for the banking cartel,
and statistics conflated by mathematicians who are paid by the banking cartel,
we experience the severe disconnect of "economics" from the reality 99% of
    us have to live in.

I wish more Americans could understand that "growth" is a fictional excuse
dreamed up by the elite to control us and subjugate us as serfs in their
    global plantation.

There are few who comprehend that "degrowth" is more beneficial to the average
community, and average family within that community. Degrowth and deflation
make their slim assets worth more. True independence and self-sufficiency is
that which is not enumerated by the bankers, it is the hidden production and
harmony that God granted us to partake of and work for. When a tiny group
lays claim on all the assets of the world, and we have to borrow from them to
"buy" those assets from them (this is what banks do), we allow them to assign
hegemony over us, and we become slaves.

All of this is simple, but dismissed by the vast majority of Americans, who are
goaded into voting for their own disenfranchisement; and ultimately, their
own dependency on Big Brother to provide the necessities of life.
    It's an extremely bleak situation.
