  • From a "container gardening" message board:

Was at the store the other day, and near fell over from "sticker shock".

    2 ears of corn...$3

Farmers will be growing more for the biofuels, and the upcoming summer
bbq's. But what is the cost going to be then? Last year, sale prices
were 12 ears for between $2-$3.

Gas prices keep going up, so to get the produce to market costs more.
Food and fuel aren't the only things made from corn.

The basic products made from corn are:

Primary Products (and examples of each)

+ STARCH (industrial, food, drugs and cosmetics)

    # Adhesives, Batteries, Dyes, Bookbinding.
    # Baby Food, Canned Vegetables, Baking Products
    # Lipstick, Aspirin, Soaps, Body Lotion

+ DEXTROSE (industrial, food, and drugs)

    # Rubber, Paper, Textiles
    # Chocolate, Fruit Juices, Wine
    # Antibiotic, intravenous Injection

    + CORN SYRUP (industrial, food)

    # Shoe Polish, Rayon, Theatrical Make-up
    # Cereals, Maple Syrups, Ice Cream, and Peanut Butter
