I was at the public library yesterday and noticed this picture in a local history book:
Tri-Cities memories : volume II: 1940s, '50s & '60s. The Tri-Cities area here includes the towns of Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland, located in eastern Washington where the Snake and Yakima rivers flow into the Columbia.
I thought some here might find it interesting. Being prepared is not a new thing. The picture wasn't dated but would be from sometime in the middle 1950's into the early 1960's. In the later 1960's while in 4-H I twice took a demonstration about preparedness (it was called civil defense back then) to the state fair. In addition to teaching First Aid and CPR/Defibrillation for the Red Cross I'm hoping to volunteer as a disaster preparedness instructor for them when we start having booths at the local fairs and festivals again.
