Title: Prepping in the 1950's
Post by: moneil on March 03, 2022, 02:30:51 PM
I was at the public library yesterday and noticed this picture in a local history book: Tri-Cities memories : volume II: 1940s, '50s & '60s (https://catalog.midcolumbialibraries.org/polaris/search/title.aspx?ctx=1.1033.0.0.6&pos=1&cn=668751).  The Tri-Cities area here includes the towns of Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland, located in eastern Washington where the Snake and Yakima rivers flow into the Columbia.

I thought some here might find it interesting.  Being prepared is not a new thing.  The picture wasn't dated but would be from sometime in the middle 1950's into the early 1960's.  In the later 1960's while in 4-H I twice took a demonstration about preparedness (it was called civil defense back then) to the state fair.  In addition to teaching First Aid and CPR/Defibrillation for the Red Cross I'm hoping to volunteer as a disaster preparedness instructor for them when we start having booths at the local fairs and festivals again.

That's neat.  No jeans or sweats at the fair.  Lovely.

4H is a great thing.
