  • Detroit Halting Garbage Pickup, Police Patrols In 20% Of City
    December 14th, 2010

    Via: Business Insider:

Detroit has been bankrupt for years. It simply refuses to admit it. Detroit’s schools are bankrupt as well. A mere 25% of students graduate from high school.

Yet, in spite of hints and threats from mayors and budget commissions, and in spite of common sense talk of bankruptcy, Detroit has not pulled the bankruptcy trigger.

In a futile attempt to stave off the inevitable one last time, Mayor Bing’s latest plan is to cutoff city services including road repairs, police patrols, street lights, and garbage collection in 20% of Detroit.

  • I live in Michigan.  Most of us want to disown Detroit.  The city proper is mostly abandoned.  In Detroit city limits, there isn't even a grocery store anymore!  Entire sections of Detroit are so empty of all but 1 or 2 people that they are talking about razing entire sections of the city and returning it to farmland.

I wish I had sources for all of this, but this is stuff I have read in newspapers & heard on radios & heard discussed by people here in Michigan.  Detroit is a pit right now.

Houses in Detroit are going for as little as $5,000.00 or less.  If someone had the money & the will, they could literally buy a whole city.  Then what would they do with it?  That would be an interesting proposition.

I know I saw a news piece about 2 months ago on the beautiful old buildings in Detroit that are falling down because the city doesn't have the $$ to repair them.

The corruption in Detroit is astounding!

  • While we're talking about Detroit -- here are some facts from Wikipedia:

The city population dropped from its peak in 1950 with a population of 1,849,568 to 910,920 in 2009. This is partly attributable to the construction of an extensive freeway system during the 1950s and white flight. In the 2000s, 70% of the total black population in Metro Detroit lived in the City of Detroit.[127]

As of the 2000 Census, there were 951,270 people, 336,428 households, and 218,341 families residing in the city. The population density was 6,855.1 people per square mile (2,646.7/km²). There were 375,096 housing units at an average density of 2,703.0 units per square mile (1,043.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 81.6% Black, 12.3% White, 1.0% Asian, 0.3% Native American, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.5% other races, 2.3% two or more races, and 5.0 percent Hispanic (mostly Puerto Rican and Mexican). The city's foreign-born population is at 4.8%. Estimates from the 2009 American Community Survey showed the foreign-born population have risen to 6.6%.[128]

There were 336,428 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 26.7% were married couples living together, 31.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families, 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.45.

I prefer the demographics of Marion, TX -- the town closest to where I live (I don't live in a city):
    Quote

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,099 people in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 74.25% White, 6.01% African American, 1.09% Native American, 1.09% Asian, 16.01% from other races, and 1.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 37.22% of the population.

There were 371 households out of which 43.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.6% were married couples living together, 18.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.4% were non-families. 17.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.95 and the average family size was 3.32.

I have not watched the show.  I didn't even know it was based in Detroit.  I watch only a few select shows on TV.  Maybe I will check this one out to see how accurate it is.

I still think the best thing to do is raze the city & turn it in to farm land!

I am tired of most of my Michigan taxes going to pay for programs in Detroit!!!!!

  • The whole thing can be blamed on the gutting of the manufacturing sector. That city could be vibrant once again if we didn't let China make everything. What a travesty.

Watched the first episode online.  It's kind of a sport trying to name the location.  It's obvious that some of the scenes are shot outside of Detroit.  The show's title is wrong from the get go, the city of Detroit's penal code for murder is not 187.

I live two miles north of Detroit.  In regards to this video, I'm going to remember that I am a Christian and so my reply is, the dude in the video doesn't know his behind from a hole in the ground.  I also think that he may be one of the Fathers from Traditio!

Like NYC, when I lived in upstate NY in 70's and mid 80's, there was talk of breaking the city off-most upstaters I talked to supported that idea, as the city drained the rest of the state dry....mostly in social welfare programs.....

If the video is wrong, you might at least inform everyone WHY it's wrong. MOST of us do NOT live two miles north of Detroit, so most of us have no idea what's going on there, except for what we see in videos like these. Saying the guy doesn't know up from down doesn't really tell us anything.

If you know something different, by all means, let us know.

You don't need me to tell you what is wrong, common sense should tell you that some of the video was staged.  Watch it again and ask yourself, what's wrong with this picture?  In much of the footage where the filming is taking place in an abandoned house, don't you think there is much more broken glass on the floor then there should be?  I saw one room which had two windows and there was more glass on the floor then there should have been given the size of the two windows.  Close your eyes and imagine how the glass of a window would fall into a room if the window had been broken from the outside.  I don't imagine it to be sprayed all over a room and cover just about every inch of the floor, do you?  And, didn't it strike you as odd that all the broken glass was clean?  Shouldn't it be covered with dust, grime and the floor covered with items that came inside from outside, like leaves?

Look at the scenes of this video where you see the two odd gloves and the box with drug paraphernalia; the gloves appear brand new, never worn and clean, and the same with the box and it's contents.  The box is clean, no dirt, no dust.  I don't know what you think, but to me,  the box looked like someone recently put it there after having opened it.

Back to the glass...look at the glass strewn all over the floor, if there had been human activity before the filming crew and company had come along, or even after, shouldn't the glass be in smaller pieces and appear ground up after the weight of human bodies had stepped on it?

    Drug houses 101

If the supposed drug house had actually been a drug house, at the very least, you would have seen a table.  Kind of hard to measure and or mix anything without a table.  You also would see a few chairs around.  How many places of business have no chairs?  Drug houses are not usually located in houses where there are no other houses around; all the traffic coming and going will draw too much attention.  They are usually located in abandoned houses in more populated neighborhoods.   City dwellers usually operate like the character Sgt. Shultz from Hogan's Hero's, they see nothing, nothing!

And last, if the host of the video had actually been going to a drug house with cameras and crew, he'd never had made it to the porch.

As far as the facts presented in the video, I'll address those later, I have a little shopping to do and I like to take advantage of the earlier hours many stores have during the Christmas season so that I can avoid the crowds.

But here's a hint to explain one very large reason the city of Detroit fell apart, Coleman A. Young.
