is it really true about 100,000 gallons a day? Or is that just what one guy says? According to a google search, "some estimates AS HIGH AS 100,000" ... well heck... I can SAY it's 800,000... but if I'm lying through my teeth because I don't like oil drilling, that's just a bunch of crap, isn't it? Other estimates hover between 5,000 and 20,00. Which is not enough to stop oil drilling in the US, I suppose, so that's probably not the kind of numbers people WANT to report. Do we suddenly trust the media or just anybody as honest and true, because they have a really good end-of-the-world scenario for us to panic about, or what?
Someone was saying recently how, when (I believe it was) Saddam blew up those oil lines and all of that, these scientists got on the air waves and ranted about how there would be nuclear winter over this, and we might enter an ice age, and blah, blah, blah... oh look... we're still here.
I think at times like this, people are forgetting one very important thing. Two, actually...
1) This earth was created by GOD. (Infinitely smart.) So to think that we ants down here can mess up things THAT easily, or kill ourselves THAT easily... we wouldn't have made it this far, probably, let alone through the next age to the time of the antichrist, when things will be even WORSE than they are now!
I'm not saying we won't have disasters. But when someone starts talking (as people have about this thing) about everyone dying or most of the earth getting wiped out... a little anti-BS alarm goes off in my head. What about the all-perfect, all intelligent, all-wise and all-foreseeing God who MADE this planet. Do these people honestly think He overlooked all of the stupid things we'd do on it?
2) God is all-POWERFUL, and... in spite of popular preference... He is STILL THERE.It sounds nice for the "green people" (environmentalists) to say drilling for oil is going to kill us all... but really... even if it WAS, in theory, going to do that, there is still an all-powerful God up there watching over us. If HE says it's not the end of the game for us, then it doesn't matter what we do, it's NOT the end of the game for us. Even if according to the laws of nature operating normally, it perhaps might have been.
Sure, the end will come for us SOME time. But if this was really going to wipe us all out, what about the promise of Mary about the triumph of her Immaculate Heart, and a period of peace? (Only an atheist, I think, would say everybody dying qualifies as "a period of peace.") What about the last age of the world, the age of the antichrist, if we're all going to die right now?
Yeah, this has little to do with the article above, save for it's about the same oil spill, but... it just gets disgusting after a while that so many people are like this. Something happens, and "OH MY GOSH!! RUN! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE RIGHT NOOOOOOW!" :faint:
Yeah... that's what they said the last 3 million times someone was just as certain. It's ridiculous. It's asinine. And Catholics should be the last ones to be going along with it, as though God's creation were not equal to the task of us living in it, or as though there was any stupidity on our part He didn't foresee when He made it, or as though He isn't there to help us even by miracles if necessary, until His will for all of mankind to the end of time is fully fulfilled.
I expect hysteria and obssession from CNN. But the rest of us just need to take a deep breath, and go take a walk with our rosary or something, until the feeling passes.
No offense to Matt (I'm saying this to EVERYONE who's been panicking), but... I've been wanting to say something, and today it just occurred to me how totally un-Catholic this whole panic-because-the-end-is-nigh attitude is, no matter what the crisis. And frankly, I think we should all be a lot more worried about that, than the whole world ending over this.
Will some animals and even people die? Yeah, probably. Will the world end, or will all or even MOST of us die? Don't be ridiculous. I think people are confusing this with the deluge of fire that's supposed to wipe out 1/3 of humanity. And I haven't seen any fire just YET, so... let's just all take a deep breath here, huh? (Unless of course you live right by it.)
Also, we need to remember that it's part of the liberal playbook to exploit panic and fear to have people running to them to be saved from the end of the world scenario that hasn't happened yet. (So that they can pass more laws, and take over more of our freedoms and lives.)
Happy panicking, people...
