  • The family and I are in a not-so-great neighborhood.

We would like to just bite the bullet now, and make the move into the country.  Trouble is, we won't be ready until next year.  And that year will be 2012--the year that economic calamity is said to be hitting.

So, what do you folks think?  To move?  Or not to move?  That is the question.

  • LaramieHirsch, I suggest you move as fast as you can.

Moving into the country is generally a good idea. Not only Bishop Williamson recommends it, but also Archbishop Lefebvre did.

But moving into the country now is highly recommendable considering the coming crash of the world wide finance system, which will inevitably lead to cινιℓ ωαrs and real wars. The really big towns will be the anarchy's first hot spots...
See Gerald Celente's prognosis and a those of a other smart thinking people.

Good luck with whatever you do.

  • City = bad...country = good...  :ape:

Seriously, a lot of modern cities are just plain unnatural as far as the scale of everything, the pace of life, etc.  Life in a more rural setting is simply more normal and consistent with human nature.

That said, if you find yourself in a city when TSHTF, so be it.  Some who are in 'bad' positions will live through the storm, while other who are in 'good' positions will not.  At the end of the day, if God wants me to live, I'll live -- if not, I won't.  Further, if it is His will that I die (even this very hour), who am I to resist Him?

Do the best you can...and TRUST IN GOD :)

  • Ditto.

Three rules from survivalist website. 1. get out of the city, 2. get out of the city, 3. get out of the city.

Also, did you know that there is 11 % less oxygen in the cities?

  • How far out of the city must one get? You must also get far from the spralling burbs to which much of the city's 'residents' have been relocated.
So how far from the metropolis must one go? How many acres does one need?

  • It really depends on where God wants you to live, whether it be the city or the country. Yes, modern cities are unnatural (and too big as well). I live in one of the largest cities in the U.S., and it can be challenging and annoying at times. It is not as bad as other cities though. Nevertheless, living in a town or in the country has attracted me.

Me thinks SW Kentucky, Northwestern TN(excluding Memphis environs), most areas of Missouri and Arkansas out of metro ways(Little Rock, KC, St Louy, etc). Good soil, plenty of space and water. I could go places in my state, but it's hot, krusty, dry. Plenty of sun, though. Not as cold in winter either.

My whole mom's family lives in the TN/KY areas you mentioned, as did I when I was a lad.

Now, those areas are overrun by meth.

    The country ain't utopia anymore...

If you're going to move to a more rural area, and you're not already very familiar with it, subscribe to the local paper for that area for a year, see how often you read about meth busts (either use or manufacture).

That being said, to answer the OP, since no one *knows* when the collapse will come (and it will not be a single event, it's a process) I don't see the difference between now and a year from now.

So, what makes you 'not ready' by the way? Is it downpayment stuff? Remember, FHA loans only require 2.75% down if you're really in a hurry, most people can scrape that together...
