Title: How bad it's getting out there
Post by: Matthew on January 15, 2009, 09:15:56 AM
An old friend posted this on his MySpace page. He still lives in the midwest (Northern Illinois), where I'm from.

Dear friends from American (a place I worked for five years).

GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE! Can't you guys see that the place is going out of business.

For those that don't know about American, or what American is, let me tell you. It's a semi local chain of about 16 stores that are in the midwest. Most, of which, are in Wisconsin. They sell really nice furniture, appliances, and electronics.

Anyhow, lately they have been getting more and more aggressive with sales. What this means is that the commission only salespeople make less and less (sometimes almost nothing).

That was the tip of the iceberg, and that's when I quit.

After that, they took away all spiffs to salespeople, but kept them for themselves. Then they started to cut back on pay. First to the phone operator (outsourced the calls to just a few stores, which made the service worse), then cut back on pay to management, then fired the little handicapped door greater that worked there full time for 10 years. Nice. Not to fear, they're using the COMMISSION ONLY sales people to be door greeters now. Nothing like free labor!

So, some management positions got a, I'm not joking, 40% pay cut.

Now, why would you stay with a company that is clearly tanking like this? To my friends that still work there, get the hell out.

If they are in business in exactly one year from now, I will be shocked.
