  • I mean "great" because you'll learn a lot from the various experts interspersed throughout the drama.

There are plenty of parts that you'll laugh at -- such as the fact that this typical white suburban family includes a sullen teenage son who seems to have very Asian eyes -- though there is never mention of his being adopted, and when he "grows up" he's completely white!

Just the fact that this family ends up "surviving" is a joke and a half. They didn't have *any* extra food and somehow the father manages to get enough food at the last minute to be able to "bunker down" in place for several weeks in the middle of L.A. Yeah right!

And you never see a single black or hispanic person -- all the "bad guys" are white -- I guess that's the PC way to go nowadays? Maybe so, but it's certainly not realistic. I would imagine a disproportionate amount of hispanic people surviving in a place like California or Texas because A) they're more down to earth, B) not afraid of hard work, and C) are socially very close-knit. I should know hispanic people, I live in Texas! They're almost as good as Jєωs when it comes to always GETting a good deal/never GIVing a good deal. They buy all the good stuff at garage sales, and if you go to a garage sale of theirs, forget it! It's all junk, and priced to the max. (If you're looking to get good stuff at garage sales, go to the subdivisions where the white folk live. THEY know how to waste, and how to give you a good deal! They only have 1 or 2 kids, so their baby stuff is always in great shape, and they're happy to get rid of it. Same for clothing and just about anything else. They don't like to clutter up their house with stuff that "still has value" -- they just get rid of stuff) Anyhow, in many ways, they're just like me!  Not to mention all the illegals who are already used to doing without, and have practical, hands-on experience "bugging out" when they trekked through the desert to sneak into the US. I bet they'd know what to pack in the "bug out bag" when leaving the Big City for a desert trek on foot!

Anyhow, the family's story itself is a bit unrealistic, but you see and learn a lot by watching the videos. Very gripping and easy to watch. Not as dark or gloomy as the "Threads" BBC docu-drama series about a post-Nuclear war scenario.

  • I liked threads because it was the most realistic of the post nuclear "movies." The american version "the day after" with steve guttenberg was hilarious.

I saw this on the history channel a while back.  They feature it occasionly and you can buy the CD set on the History Channel website.  I thought it was a great  movie, which EVERYONE should watch! It gives so many invaluable tips on how to survive.  In this case it was the aftermath of a global pandemic.  The swine flu is still around and replicating.  There will be a deadly strain this fall, I hear.  The scenario  could really happen.
Everybody please watch, or get the CDs.
