Target expands childcare and paid family leave benefits as retailers battle for talent
I understand that "talent" is sometimes used as a synonym for "help", "employees", etc. but isn't applying "talent" to retail employees going a bit too far? Let's be realistic: it requires no talent whatsoever to stock shelves, receive shipments in the back room, man a cash register, or work customer service. If it actually required talent and/or education, these employees would be making a lot more than $8 or $9 an hour. But these are jobs that almost anyone can do, ergo they do NOT require talent -- unless an average, able-bodied adult without mental or physical handicaps is now considered "talented".

I think an able-bodied adult with even a small amount of courtesy, work ethic, and common sense should be called talented. Such persons are exceedingly rare.

Isn't a talent the natural ability to be good at something.
So if you were in business and wanting to employ someone would you not chose someone with good people skills, diplomatic, polite, honest, responsible, with some aptitude for accounting, display, etc.
CHild care and retailing are worthy occupations not to be disparaged, in my opinion.
As my Mum would say: A thing worth doing is worth doing well!

In my retail experience, "talent" was that you showed up for work when you were scheduled and didn't steal anything while you were there.
