That cop’s gun was clearly a Glock, and given that he was able to fire 18 rounds before needing to reload, I’m guessing it was the Glock 17 9mm (17+1 capacity).
What was interesting to me was that he did not hesitate to fire directly through his windshield, as there are longstanding objections to the 9mm as a standard service weapon due to a notorious (alleged) lack of power, including the (alleged) inability to penetrate certain leather garments, and windshields at certain angles (ie., cops all want .40’s and .45’s, but are prohibited in certain jurisdictions).
Granted, this cop shot through the windshield at point blank, and directly (rather than at an angle), but it was still interesting.
Also: Not sure what the bad guys were shooting, but when the cop was unloading his clips into their truck, there was no return fire.
The lesson?
If you are firing a 6-shooter while the other guy has 3x your capacity before he needs to reload, that’s a pretty significant battlefield advantage.
If you had written off the 9mm as a personal protection weapon based on some of the aforementioned objections, you might think again.
Yes, I myself prefer larger calibers with lesser capacity (eg, the trusty Glock 21 .45 can still push out 14 before reloading), but maybe the 9mm is not so anemic and undesirable as I once thought.
