This guy talks about some of his mistakes -- which would have been fatal for him and his family if the crap had already hit the fan, say, 2 years ago.

Basically he covers the topic of simple-minded preppers who think they can buy a canister of heirloom seeds and put them on a shelf somewhere, and then think they're "covered" for long-term food security.

Not even close.

Snails and slugs are crazy about beer. Fill a pie tin or other shallowish bowl that they can climb into with cheap beer, and place in problem areas. The next day you will find them drowned in it. I used to get dozens in each pan. It works.

The Mormons are required to keep a year or two worth of supplies in their home to survive some future rapture type event.

I suggest if your family is starving to raid the local Mormon Temple to get the addresses of Mormons so you can raid them. But be careful, they will be armed and organized but surprise and opportunity are to your advantage.

In a crises if you have food stock piled it will last only as long as you can defend it. Try watching a couple seasons of "The Walking Dead".
