Wow. You found another stooge to vote in the poll. Great.
I'm sure if you beat the bushes at your flat-tards forum you can find one or two more.
If you ever get one or two more viewers there, that is.   ::)
    .
Notice the votes for "I'm sick of this debate" are increasing faster than the flat-earthers' votes.

  • Actually, I hardly ever participate on Cathinfo much anymore because of inane conversations about flat earth.  Hard to take it seriously when this kind of stupid talk is popularized.  I came into this thread by chance, and because it was titled: What Do Cathinfo Members Think.  ...so this is what I think.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if flat earther people were plants in our community set up here to delititmize us and make us look crazy.  Lord knows, the FBI and CIA last week shown themselves not to be above such stiff.  Of all the things we should be talking about...you people engage in this navel gazing.  Can we talk about Pokemon, pogs, and Magic the Gathering next?

Anyway, moving on.  Flat Earthers are insular and ignorable.
I also stopped reading here when every other post became flat earth nonsense. It’s clearly an obsession for some. To the point of mental illness, perhaps. I’ve never felt so much “transfer embarrassment” for complete strangers.
I wish this topic was banned or limited to a single thread.  I think there would be more posting from other members about faith, culture, family life etc..

  • Why the need for so many threads about this topic?  Is the earth flat - yes or no?  3-4 threads would suffice, (if you even need more than 1), yet there’s about 80+ in the span of the last 3-4 months.  Totally bonkers, obsessive and scary.

I agree with the request by ‘an even seven’ to have all the evidence in one spot.  Why is this so hard?

Maybe the answer is that non-scientists are trying to explain science?  I’m not saying that in a demeaning way, just trying to understand the over-complexity or generality of many “answers”.

And what is hoped to be solved by this debate?  I can understand a guy wearing a sign ‘the end is near’ and preaching repentance on a street corner.  At least his efforts will save souls and stop sin.  But what is solved by the obsessive debate over the earth’s shape?  Will it save people from hell?  Will it help people to love and come to Christ?  Will it instruct the ignorant in the Faith?

All I see are the “fruits” of bickering, loss of time, and the over-emphasis on science as having some actual connection to salvation (I’d argue it has none).  Certainly, this subject has its place as a “potentially” fun and intellectually stimulating topic, but I think many of you give it way, way too much importance.

Dude, are you kidding?  How do you not get how profound this is??  You find out that the UNIVERSE  is COMPLETELY different from what you've been taught since you were born, not just you, but parents, grandparents, greatgrandparents, ect, ect.  I'm sorry, but this is pretty darned earth shattering.  It is a big deal.  So, instead of telling people to get over it, you should.

Yes, it is a big deal.

Not that we have to believe in a flat earth for our salvation, but God has pretty much been taken out of Western society, and it could not have been so easily done without the belief in a globe earth. That's why I personally think it's important. It would not have been so important before, say, before the reformation in Europe. Modern science seems to have really taken off after that.

How did our western society get this point of being practically Godless? That's a question that's been important to me for awhile now. Not that it's ONLY the Godless modern science that's responsible for our present situation - there are a lot of factors too, it seems to me.

  • If you went from believing that God created a universe with trillions of stars in it to a relatively tiny little dome, I think it would be a little underwhelming. The point is if one already believes that God created it, what does the shape, manner, and nature of it matter. It adds nothing of profit for our Salvation. Now if you really didn't believe that God created it, I could see where the shock and awe would come in. Otherwise one would have to be quite naïve to think they aren't lied to constantly.
I believed in God, before I believed in Flat Earth.  Although, Evolution was a turning point for me.  No, it seemed obvious, to me, that The Bible must be make believe if Evolution was true.  Yet, I wouldn't say the same thing about a Moving, Insignificant Planet Earth, because that wasn't so obvious to me.  It was much more subtle, I think, than Evolution was in undermining my Faith and in that experience, I am not unique.  But, I think it takes a long time for most people to realize that.

  • Somebody said something that fits right in with Seven's question:  The Devil undermines the Truth in The Natural World, because supernatural truths are built on top of natural truths.  For example, Christ rises from the dead.  Why's that a big deal?  Because we know people don't come back from the dead.  So, when it does happen, we know it's either a fraud or a miracle.  If on the other hand, Satan decieved the world into believing that people came back from the dead, then Christ's Resurrection wouldn't matter anymore.  So, the Truth's of The Natural World matter, because Salvific Truths are "built" on the truth's of the natual world.

    .
I hear you saying that unless we disregard the evidence of our senses we will have no faith in God.
Because everywhere we look we can find the effects of the earth's curvature and sometimes we can see it firsthand.
    Like here:
    .
Therefore, you believe we must deliberately ignore these enormous clues we find all around us and say the earth is "flat" or else we will be unable to believe that God exists, correct?

    Yes, it is.                    21 (44.7%)

No, it is flat.                  10 (21.3%)

This debate is ridiculous and I wish
it was not allowed on Cathinfo.    13 (27.7%)

    other                            3 (6.4%)

    .
So it's still like three-to-one in favor of spherical earth.
Those who say the debate is ridiculous would not say that if they thought the earth is "flat."
They would have voted, "No, it is flat." But they didn't.
As for "other" who knows?  Maybe they can't read or something. Or they forgot what site they're on.
