    I noticed that too when I was at Mass.

    It is not conclusive either way, since the word orbem could mean either a sphere or circle.  The Romans (by the time of Pliny) all thought the earth was a sphere, so it would have had that connotation for them, but the word itself does not necessarily mean that.  The expression orbem terrarum was a set phrase which meant "the whole world" rather than a commitment to any particular shape of the world.

    The ancient Fathers knew more about the spherical earth that they let on to know.
    They had more important topics upon which to expound.
    As commentary on Venerable Bede point out, the Fathers let the commonly known globe earth pass without mention. 
    That was the age of Faith, when common sense was prevalent, and there was no Flat Earth Society.

    But today, Flat Earth Society members can be found all around the globe!
