More to say on those quotes in a moment...

Back cover:

Sungenis chose quotes to support the globe
is book cover from some very non-Catholic sources:
George Orwell?!
George Orwell was a well-known member of the Socialist Fabian Society.
Which in turn has its roots in the occult Rosicrucians.
Why would a Trad quote anti-Catholic occult authors for his book?

Why would a Trad quote anti-Catholic occult authors for his book?
Because the Church doesn't provide Sungenis Catholic sources for the globe.
-
"Many people believe they are thinking when they are only rearranging their pre-existing prejudices."
Lol...
Typical liberal. Sungenis' reference quote shows he's guilty of his own assertions against flat earth.
-
Why does a Trad quote the atheist/existentialist "freethinker" Johann Goethe, who described himself as "most decidedly non-Christian"?
Goethe defended sex with children, describing it as "natural, even though it proceeds against nature." He also said, "I like boys, but girls are even nicer."
Goethe also loved Kabbalah and esotericism, incoporating this into his novel, Faust.
Why would a Trad pick THIS MAN for a back cover quote to defend globe earth?
Sungenis has some strange heroes?
Sungenis couldn't find any quotes from Catholics to defend earth as a globe??
-
Why does Sungenis quote Freemason Brother Mark Twain, member of St. Louis Polar Star Lodge #79, showing his love for science?
Why does a Trad Catholic choose to quote Twain, who often railed against organized religion?
These very strange choices/admirations don't appear to come from a typical Trad Catholic.
And I haven't even opened the book yet!
-
No doubt the globe was pretty popular in Twain's day, so the following quote actually works against Sungenis.
"There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact."

“Simply put, ‘The Principle’ is not a film designed to convince anyone that geocentrism is necessarily shown to be true based on existing observations.”—Rick deLano December 19, 2013
https://biblescienceforum.com/2014/11/03/review-of-the-principle/
Seriously? So Sungenis and Delano aren't even trying convince anyone that geocentirsm is necessarily true based on existing observations? What?!!
Thanks for posting this thread, SB. Great observations you guys. This Sungenis book is already falling apart before it even gets out the door.
-
The final quote, by Martin Selbrede, is utterly silly in its suggestion that flat earthers have a "pre-existing prejudice. "
NO flat earthers are prejudiced to flat earth, because ALL flat earthers are former globe believers.
Selbrede is problematic for Sungenis as well...more to come on that.
-
Selbrede runs the Chalcedon Foundation, a Presbyterian-founded thinktank that calls itself "neo-Puritan. "
They have deep pockets having been financed by a couple of billionaires.
Perhaps the Protestant Selbrede's Chalceon Foundation was the source of DeLano and Sungenis's funding for The Principle?
They have some very strange, non-Catholic bedfellows.
-
“Simply put, ‘The Principle’ is not a film designed to convince anyone that geocentrism is necessarily shown to be true "
Then what is The Principle designed to convince people of, if not geocentrism??
-
Have Delano and Sungenis made enemies through dishonest practices? Most of the cast of their movie are angry with them for misrepresenting what they were doing.
Popular Science Article on The Principle shows that Mr S and Mr D might not be sure what they represent.
https://www.popsci.com/article/science/how-conspiracy-theorist-duped-worlds-biggest-physicists (https://www.popsci.com/article/science/how-conspiracy-theorist-duped-worlds-biggest-physicists)
"The film is not about geocentrism," DeLano told me flatly. Rather, it's about the Copernican principle -- Copernicus's idea that the Earth doesn't occupy a cosmically special place in the universe. DeLano then took me on a circuitous talk -- through dark matter, through Galileo, through the cosmic microwave background -- before landing on his thesis: "The fact of the matter is we don't know whether the universe has a center," he said, "but we can obseeeeeeeerve through a telescope that there is a center and guess who's sitting at the center of it -- us." His favorite phrase, employed whenever I failed to understand or follow, was, "Do your homework."
-
Rick DeLano is a nasty personality, that treats all who object with vitriol & scorn. It's good the article pointed it out.
He sank his own movie by lying and getting Kate Mulgrew and the rest under false pretenses.

Are the flat-earthdown-syndromers done with their ad hominems, or are they just warming up? ::)

Sungenis and Delano insist it was flat earth that did them in, and I'm sure it had an impact, but scientists and most of the rest of the cast of the movie also complained about being misinformed about their role. The public isn't usually interested in docuмentaries contrary to what they believe, so it seems these are some of the things that tanked the movie.
-
.
The book spends most of its content on Biblical topics and on addressing social media topics.
.
It seems to me Sungenis has been overly sensitized to the effects that social media might have on his efforts.
.
After being blind-sided by the unforeseen reaction against The Principle, he's trying to prevent a repeat this time.
.
Overall, it appears he imagines his enemy is the current fad of the appearance of flat-earthism popularity.
.
Perhaps he figures there is a market share in selling books to flat-earthers which he doesn't want to miss out on.
.
In the end, he's facing the same dilemma he faced with the movie, since flat-earthers aren't interested in the facts.
.
Lawrence Krauss and his mind-numbed lemmings aren't interested in the facts, either.
.
They're quite happy with their inane drivel like, "Nothing is everything," and "The unknowable is knowable."

I agree that FE probably had an impact, but probably wasn't the entire reason for doing them in. I can't imagine that there are really all that many flat earth advocates out there. But if there are, it may be the case that flat earthers are just more vocal and passionate about the cause. Geocentrists don't really seem all that willing to stand up for, or promote their cause all that much (at least it seems this way for the geocentrists on the forum here). They often prefer to rail against FE. The forum member Cassini is an exception, of course. He's quite reasonable.
If I could know that Sungenis would do an analysis that were charitable and fair to the FE side, I would read the book. But I doubt that's the case. It's unfortunate that geocentrists don't really strive to understand FE, and why its important. They just seem reactionary, as if FE were the worst thing in the world. But it can't be the worst thing in the word, since there were early Church Fathers who believed in FE.

Yes, Fathers definitely did believe earth is flat, and Scripture describes a flat earth, and quite specifically not a globe, but Sungenis and Delano either don't know about the Fathers, or they aren't dealing with the Fathers. And their objection to Scripture is incredibly weak. Sungenis says that the firmament might be flexible or airy. Well, his head is flexible and airy because the Father's teach that the firmament is not only a hard, impassable structure, but that there is water above it, not space. Any reference to the air being the firmament includes the actual firmament but describes the air along with the firmament as things above us. And what about the water above the firmament? Sungenis actually suggests that it is out in space somewhere. ??? Augustine actually speculated about the water passing over/past the stars to get to the earth and because he couldn't account for how that worked, yet he admitted that it must be so because Scripture said it. No surprise the people of today would rather believe unsubstantiated, highly questionable, pagan science than believe what God says--like St. Augustine. The pagan model is patently guilty of twisting of truth and has less credibility than anything the Holy Spirit inspired, so without proof of their model, why do people choose to believe it? Romans 3:4 Let God be true and every man a liar. As it is written: “So that You may be justified in Your words, and prevail in Your judgments.”

I get thumbed down for asking if Neil bought the book??
Sungenis and DeLano's film was undone by their getting participants under false pretenses.
They were sunk by yhe resulting bad press.

Yea, Neil's kindergarten mentality is restricted to few resources. If crayons were permitted, the flat earth forum would be scribbled on for printing and mounting on his mom's fridge.

Dearest Smeddles,
Perhaps one day your ship will come in and you'll be afforded the best life can offer!
Wait...........I feel a song coming on...(...gradual fade-out with softening vignette-turened-to-whole frame blurriness as the setting sun - without solar filter - replaced with 1/16th sized sun - continues setting - then solar filter removed - then replaced - then removed - then replaced - ending with the explosion of green as the sun sinks down low AND THE POWERFUL TELESCOPE IS ZOOMED IN to show how the end of the green explosion can FILL YOUR FRAME but no hint of the sun can be found since it is now PAST SUNSET and no sun is anywhere to be seen - Then, YOU CLIMB UP TO THE ROOF TOP TO SEE THE SUN IN ALL ITS GLORY FROM A HIGHER VANTAGE POINT, then you step into the elevator at, at the, at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE standing at 828 meters... at which point you still being able to see the last bit of the sun and the hour day-timer window prominently displaying the real time as it passes for all the flat-earthers to see that is if they have eyes to see and ears to hear, cf. St Paul to the Romans: "As it is written: God hath given them the spirit of insensibility; eyes that they should not see; and ears that they should not hear, until this present day."...amen.)

Oh, aand aanother thing..
Lol

So nice to see you again, aryzia. You're looking joyful as ever. Happy 4th of July!!

.
Ah-hhem!
.
Are you so sure you're not conflating charity with a spiritual work of mercy?
Do you understand the difference in categories those are among?
How do you manage to stand over the very thing in which you deny your subsistence?
.
Of course,
It's far better to mull over and cry about what you don't know rather than to just read the book and remove all doubt.
.
Sound familiar?
.
No?
.
Need a reminder?

.
Uhhh,,,, what's there to understand about FE?
Why IS it important, anyway, to show how articles that ridicule the Church only ridicule flat-earthers, according to Ladislaus (https://www.cathinfo.com/the-earth-god-made-flat-earth-geocentrism/how-does-'flat-earthism'-defame-church-providing-material-for-ridicule-thereof/msg616959/#msg616959)?
.
Recommended Character for 4th of July skits with family of talented writers and actors -- the character huddles in the corner or under a desk afraid to come out and is heard repeating such complaints as those Meg offers: "It's unfortunate... why it's important... reactionary... worst thing in the world... but FE can't be the worst thing in the world... early Church Fathers" ... who watched Jeranism videos -- I mean, refused to believe what they see when they stop, like shepherds with flocks at night, to think about what they see in the sky..... the star......... over Bethlehem........
.
Imagine if the three Wise Men had not known anything about what they SHOULD be able to see at night when the stars in the sky give their messages to those with eyes to see and ears to hear. . . . . . . . . . . . . or NOT.

Many thanks to happenby for providing fruitful material that young aspiring writers can use to compose skits their family can enjoy all polished up and ready for the Family Theater Night which is something great to do, in like, your backyard or a park while the sun is going down over the horizon of the spheroid earth and no telescope can zoom in and make it come "back" which would be a wonderful scene to have for anyone with a Celestron telescope or whatever it makes a great prop for the Family Fun Theater Hour before fireworks tomorrow.
