  • The bible seems to say that Jonah went into the great deep, if I am correct that is the water upon which the earth lies, but was Jonah not in the ocean on the way to Nineveh? Is the great deep not separated from the earth by plates?
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. - Roman’s 9:16 Douay Rheims

Jonah should have been around the red arrows, but it seems that he was around the green arrows?

  • Do you have a citation of the Biblical passages in question?  Perhaps there's a question of what the "great deep" means in context, etc.  If it means THE Great Deep, then if that's what Sacred Scripture says, then that's what actually happened.  Of course, people like Fr. Paul Robinson undoubtedly don't believe that Jonah was actually swalled by some whale or other sea creature, but that the story was entirely allegorical.

    Here is the biblical passage

The waters compassed me about even to the soul: the deep hath closed me round about, the sea hath covered my head.  7 I went down to the lowest parts of the mountains: the bars of the earth have shut me up for ever: and thou wilt bring up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. - Jonah 2:6-7 Douay Rheims

this really sounds like red arrow territory but Jonah was in green arrow territory, did Jonah go through the fountains of the deep? Do they even go through the pillars of the earth, or did he float off the surface of the earth into the great deep inside the fish?

  • But would Jonah not be stopped by Antarctica from swimming off the edge of the earth/oceans into the great deep? The only way was if he went through the fountains of the deep, maybe there was one off the coast of Nineveh :confused::confused:
