Small telescope to see a few thousand miles away
« on: September 12, 2023, 11:06:27 AM »
I'm trying to find a best bang for buck telescope /camera that can see a few thousand miles away. I'm not a photographer so I don't really understand what kind of specs I'd need to see that far. Even a drone (if possible that could see a couple thousand miles) would work. Just trying to find some tech to do the expiriments myself

Is this related to Flat Earth vs. Globe Earth?

If so, I fully support your endeavors.

Good for you, d0ctor. No one should really opine much about the subject unless they look at things first hand.

Good point. But then again, when it's basic logic at stake, that can be done with just a brain, you know? Some things can be done with an Internet connection, a browser that can visit Nasa.gov, and a functioning brain that operates on logic.
Not everything must be done from zero, trusting no one. We trust all sorts of things every day. The only issue is filtering for biases, judging credibility and authenticity, etc.
But you can get a lot of that without busting out the camera yourself.

We're not following the false philosophers that say you can't trust anyone, you must build up science "from zero" all by yourself. Personal experience is NOT the only source of truth. Even science doesn't work that way...

Building off the work of others, and having human faith in others, happens *all the time* and by everybody.

True, but it’s within nearly everyones reach to by an inexpensive telescope and at least realize that the moon is solid and not translucent.
