Skyquakes appear to be a real and well-attested natural phenomenon. No one knows what they are, but I think the most likely explanation is that it's simply the sound of thunder being carried from a distant thunder storm by conditions that are unusually suitable for the propagation of sound to great distances.

It's global warming. Lava deep in the earth is boiling and making all these sounds.
