Title: Shaq says EARTH IS FLAT!
Post by: mw2016 on March 19, 2017, 04:04:06 PM
God bless Shaquille O'Neal!

This is wonderful!

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/shaquille-oneal-agrees-with-kyrie-irving-believes-the-earth-is-flat/

At this point, you might as well just assume that your favorite NBA person fundamentally rejects a basic tenet of astronomy, and believes that the Earth is in fact flat, and not a sphere. You can now add Shaquille O’Neal to the list of people who buy into the theory that Kyrie Irving revealed he subscribes to over the All-Star Break (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/kyrie-irving-doubles-down-on-flat-earth-belief-offers-thoughts-on-dinosaurs/)

Or maybe they really believe this, rejecting accepted scientific principles and the first-person accounts of those who have, you know, actually been to space. As this mindset willfully ignores and rejects evidence accepted as fact by the entire scientific community, there’s no real way of arguing against it. We’ve reached a point where basic elements of human existence in the universe are subject to interpretation and subjective reassessment. Whatever that says about the state of the world, at least it shows a level of intellectual curiosity and contemplative thought from NBA (http://www.cbssports.com/nba) players have that has been absent in years past.
After all, when you get down to it, this is really the end result of a critical mind, a presumptive rejection of accepted truths based on their very status as having been accepted.
... So anyway, yeah, Shaq thinks the world is flat, and humanity is doomed.

Fellow NBA player Kyrie Irving said earth is FLAT almost a month ago!

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/kyrie-irving-says-the-earth-is-undeniably-flat-this-is-not-even-a-conspiracy-theory/

"If you’re one of those people who believe the Earth is round, congratulations. You’re in the majority of the population who thinks so.
But Kyrie Irving (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/1779901/kyrie-irving) can’t relate with that line of thinking.
In a recent podcast appearance (http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/features/road-trip-170217) with teammates Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/240295/richard-jefferson), Frye threw a curveball by asking if his fellow Cavalier brothers believed in whether aliens exist -- and Irving one-upped him, asking the group if they believed the Earth is round.
He set himself up for a head-scratching answer to his own question.
“This is not even a conspiracy theory,” Irving said. “The Earth is flat.”
When pressed on a response that, for the record, is flat out wrong, Irving went off the rails and blamed “particular groups” that he did not name which he thinks want to convince us the Earth is, in fact, round.
Said Irving: “It’s right in front of our faces. I’m telling you, it’s right in front of our faces. They lie to us.
“What I’ve been taught is that the earth is round. But if you really think about it from a landscape of the way we travel, the way we move and the fact that, can you really think of us rotating around the sun and all planets aligned, rotating in specific dates, being perpendicular with what’s going on with these planets?”

Almost in disbelief with his sincere response, Richard Jefferson asked: “How are you going to put the word ‘planets’ in quotations?”
Because, everything that they send — or that they want to say they’re sending — doesn’t come back,” Irving reasoned. “There is no concrete information except for the information that they’re giving us. They’re particularly putting you in the direction of what to believe and what not to believe. The truth is right there, you just got to go searching for it.

This is going to empower so many regular people to go public with their own FE belief.

So Shaq believes the earth is flat. Shaq is an interesting guy. The last time I remember thinking about him was when I saw a video from the Dimonds about magicians where they show Shaq being levitated in the air by a magician. He was lying down and was just floating in the air.

okay, say the earth is flat.

That means, according to ever flat earth map I have ever seen, that South America, Africa and Australia are all opposed by roughly 120 degrees. The three continents face away from one another. Yet, at any given time of night, People on the same latitude in Australia, Africa and South America see the same night sky, albeit at different times. They see it all revolving around the same point in time lapse photography.

Now, what geometrical object do you have where you can have three people, each opposed to the other by 120 degrees face outward FROM one another and see the same point? Only one:

A sphere rotating on its axis. Or being rotated about, given geocentrism.

If a flat earther can clearly and unambiguously explain how three continents, each opposed to the other, can have people standing on a common plane, each facing AWAY from the others and all observe a common POINT I will become a flat earther.

No one is certain exactly what the flat earth map looks really looks like.  Nevertheless, there are so many proofs of flat earth.  Scripture and the Church have been squarely in the flat earth camp since the beginning.  Starting with scripture.  I have yet to find anyone who denies flat earth to explain how any passages in scripture might be describing a round earth.  Genesis opens with a powerfully flat earth description:
Gen 1. 6 And God said: Let there be a firmament made amidst the waters: and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Gen 1.7 And God made a firmament, and divided the waters that were under the firmament, from those that were above the firmament, and it was so.

Further on, scripture describes the heavenly bodies IN the firmament, under the dome.

And God said: Let there be lights made in the firmament of heaven, to divide the day and the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years:

From Wikipedia

According to The Jєωιѕн Encyclopedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jєωιѕн_Encyclopedia):
Quote
The Hebrews regarded the earth as a plain or a hill figured like a hemisphere, swimming on water. Over this is arched the solid vault of heaven. To this vault are fastened the lights, the stars. So slight is this elevation that birds may rise to it and fly along its expanse.[8] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmament#cite_note-8)
Augustine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augustine) wrote that too much learning had been expended on the nature of the firmament.[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmament#cite_note-Grant-9) "We may understand this name as given to indicate not it is motionless but that it is solid." he wrote.[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmament#cite_note-Grant-9) Saint Basil (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Basil) argued for a fluid firmament.[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmament#cite_note-Grant-9) According to St. Thomas Aquinas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Aquinas), the firmament had a "solid nature" and stood above a "region of fire, wherein all vapor must be consumed."
The Copernican Revolution (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copernican_Revolution) of the 16th century led to reconsideration of these matters. In 1554, John Calvin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Calvin) proposed that "firmament" be interpreted as clouds.[11] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmament#cite_note-Luigi-11) "He who would learn astronomy and other recondite arts, let him go elsewhere," wrote Calvin.[11] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmament#cite_note-Luigi-11) "As it became a theologian, [Moses] had to respect us rather than the stars," Calvin wrote. Calvin's "doctrine of accommodation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accommodation_(religion))" allowed Protestants to accept the findings of science without rejecting the authority of scripture (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Calvin%27s_view_of_Scripture).[11] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmament#cite_note-Luigi-11)[12] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmament#cite_note-catholicencyc-12)

Thanks to the Copernican/heliocentric revolution coupled with pagan and heretical support such as the outrageous Calvin and his "doctrine of accomodation", we now have a false view of earth.

He leaves it totally ambiguous.
"“No, I don’t think that,” O’Neal told Harbinger of a flat Earth. “It was a joke, OK? So know that when Shaquille O’Neal says something, 80 percent of the time I’m being humorous, and it is a joke. And 20 percent of the time, I’m being serious, but when I’m being serious, you’ll know. You want to see me, seriously? See me and Charles Barkley going back and forth on TNT. That’s when I’m mad and when I’m serious. Other than that, you’re not going to get that out of me, so I was just joking people. The Earth is not round, it’s flat. Which canonized saints mocked God?
“All educated persons of Columbus’ day, very much including the Roman Catholic prelates, knew the earth was round. The Venerable Bede (c. 673-735) taught that the world was round, as did Bishop Virgilius of Salzburg (c. 720-784), Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179), and Thomas Aquinas (c. 1224-74). All four ended up saints. Sphere was the title of the most popular medieval textbook on astronomy, written by the English scholastic John of Sacrobosco (c. 1200-1256). It informed that not only the earth but all heavenly bodies are spherical.'  ----Rodney Stark: Catholicism and Science, Stark, 9/2004.

Church father Lactentius in the Divine institutes, Chapter 24 :
they thought that the world is round like a ball, and
they fancied that the heaven revolves in accordance with the motion of
the heavenly bodies; and thus that the stars and sun, when they have
set, by the very rapidity of the motion of the world are borne back to
the east. Therefore they both constructed brazen orbs, as though after
the figure of the world, and engraved upon them certain monstrous
images, which they said were constellations.
....I am at a loss what to say respecting those who, when they have
once erred, consistently persevere in their folly, and defend one vain
thing by another;
but that I sometimes imagine that they either discuss
philosophy for the sake of a jest, or purposely and knowingly undertake
