What is the origin of "flat" earth and how does it effect [sic] big bang and evolution?
.
"Rob
[Skiba] also went through all these authors that talk about how the book of Genesis is to be interpreted, especially when they come to the firmament. And they
[the quoted authors] say, well,
the firmament has to be a dome, and the earth has to be flat, and all these things. Even now, there's a lot of scholars who write that
[regarding the origins of Hebrew cosmology], and I was under the impression that they were all correct, as well. And
[after researching its development, it turns out that] the reason they claim to be correct is,
they claim that the Hebrews got that information from the ancient Mesopotamian cultures that lived before them.
.
"And that these Mesopotamian cultures who didn't know, really, how the world was constructed, made up all kinds of things; one of them was a 'flat' earth with a 'dome' over it. And
there were different variations of the 'flat' earth and a 'dome' among different ancient Mesopotamian cultures. And the liberal scholarship that we've all been under for decades now, has made the claim that the Hebrews basically took these Mesopotamian texts, rearranged them a little bit to fit their Hebrew sensitivities, and
Voilla! We have the same basic construction of the universe that these Babylonian cultures had!
.
"And that was the abiding theory, and
it really fit like a glove for them. Because, you know what they did after that? They'd say, 'Well, but we know that isn't the truth. We know there isn't a "dome," we know that the earth isn't "flat," so we can make up anything that we want!'
Voilla!! We have the Big Bang Theory!! And we have evolution!!, and we have all kinds of ideas about what's out there in space!!
.
"You see? So, what I'm trying to say is, this whole idea of the firmament with the 'dome' was some cockamamy idea that was thought up by some liberal scholars who had no respect whatsoever for the Bible
[the Bible has no "dome" in it], and were trying to figure out, well,
'Where did [should we say] this ["flat" earth cosmology] come from? Well, it came from these pagan Mesopotamian people over here, that's where we'll say it came from! And we know they're really not up on cosmology, so that will give us the excuse that we can make up any cosmology we want!' and that's exactly what we have today."
