  • this idea [FE] that really makes no difference to our salvation?

That is a really big presumption on your part. I guess you're a gambler.
    .
    .
For my part, I'm not a gambler. I'm not going to roll the dice with my soul.
    .
I'm going to believe everything He said as being ESSENTIAL to my salvation.
    .
    .
Even the shape of our flat earth.

    Please pray for my soul.

Thou art a hypocrite, who art here every day judging flat earthers to be stupid and mocking them by posting your cartoons and memes.
    .
Don't forget the part about CHARITY, Myrna!

  • Please state the specific passage in Scripture that says the Earth is flat, the Teaching of the Magisterium that says or implies that this is what we are to believe. Every time I ask this sort of question, I revieve a response of certain Scriptural Passages that either have nothing to do with FE or are clearly meant to relay a different meaning than what FEers take it to mean. I have never gotten a response that clearly includes, such and such Book of the Bible with the Chapter and verse that the Earth is implicitly or even close to explicitly flat.

You are saying that believing FE is "essential for Salvation" therefore anyone who pertinaciously disagrees with FE is a heretic. This means that all the Catholics who disagree with this theory are going to hell. Do you deny this?
I have no opinion on the final destination of anyone's soul. None.
    .
    .
I have the opinion that one is obligated to believe the Bible, especially where it directly contradicts science. Especially.
    .
    .
The passages have been given to you, ad nauseum. You make excuse when presented with them. WHY is that??

  • Also, it's very interesting that you chose Elvis Presley as your avatar.
Because I'm in the ghetto. It's funny. You don't like Elvis?

  • I've not seen any flat earthers come here to dish it out.
    .
I've seen flat earthers come here to discuss how they came to the truth after being deceived their whole lives about the shape of God's Creation.
    .
In response, I've seen total blasphemy, hatred, derision, and insults hurled at them for their acknowledgment of this truth - even, and especially, from you Myrna.
    .
    .

Flat earthers aren't concerned with dishing it out. They're concerned with discussing the greatest deception perpetrated on humanity in the last 500 years, and concerned with helping their fellow Catholics back to the belief in God's Word and what it SAYS - not what "science" says. Science LIES.
    Theology: Science. Scholastic Philosophy: Science.

Astronomy, used for example by monastics to measure times, and seasons which is kinda important for actual Catholics. Science.

    Irrigation? Animal husbandry? Metallurgy? ...

Way to pretty much do what the secular often accuses Catholics of doing, namely putting us in the dark ages, but not the actual dark ages because the Church preserved knowledge, SCIENCES, and pretty much western civilization then as well.

Science also isn't a moral agent. It can't lie. It can't actively do anything. People lie.

Save the back-pedal. "Well OF COURSE I meant..." whatever.

Good point(s) DZ... I'm reminded of this passage, I think it's relevant to what you are stating....

    Genesis 4
17And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived, and brought forth Henoch: and he built a city, and called the name thereof by the name of his son Henoch.18And Henoch begot Irad, and Irad begot Maviael, and Maviael begot Mathusael, and Mathusael begot Lamech: 19Who took two wives: the name of the one was Ada, and the name of the other was Sella. 20And Ada brought forth Jabel: who was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of herdsmen. 21And his brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of them that play upon the harp and the organs.22Sella also brought forth Tubalcain, who was a hammerer and artificer in every work of brass and iron. And the sister of Tubalcain was Noema.

Back atcha man. It's almost like monastics read the Bible or something...  ;D

Some monasteries, esp. the really old ones, have observatories, even multiples. You likely know this, some don't.

It definitely helps to have had the pleasure of enjoying the friendship of a Traditional Benedictine monastery for many years. Sigh... I sure miss those days.

I do as as well even though "my" monks were, by and large, "Mertonian" Buddhists by the time I got there, which explains why I didn't stay there.

    Hippies in habits...sheesh.

  •  The Bible says nothing of the shape of the Earth.  Verses describing firmaments etc... do not tell me the Earth is flat.
    Yes, it does.

    .
You were given them and you scoffed.
