I can't believe TWO members were so defensive as to take offense at what the software (SimpleMachines, probably the largest and most popular free open-source message board software in 2017) calls a subforum ("child board")

As a programmer, I use the term parent/child literally every day to refer to an object which is part of, or belongs to, another object. It's a neutral, unoffensive computer term.

Need I point out that this software has been used on CathInfo since Lent of this year? From the very beginning, we have had SEVERAL "child boards" and no one took offense to the term. But as soon as Flat Earth is placed in a "child board", watch out!

It shows how much you've been fighting (or enjoy fighting?) when you're that trigger happy, let me tell you! You're like a Vietnam vet who has flashbacks, PTSD, and/or has to sleep with the lights on.

Or like something out of a comedy -- a military nut who accidentally blows a big hole in his front door just because a stray cat startled him. People laugh AT such types!

I'll just re-post what I said earlier, since I don't have time for this nonsense.

    I will only add this:

I honestly didn't mean any insult by it when I created the board, and let the software call the sub-forum what it normally calls it (a child board)

    HOWEVER --

To the 2 individuals who have complained about the term "child board" and took offense by it, I have something to say to you:

GROW UP AND STOP ACTING LIKE CHILDREN. If you want to discuss controversial topics on a public board, you need to grow some skin that's somewhat thicker than a nanometer!

It doesn't take 11 years of forum experience, or 4 decades of life, to know that when a person takes offense where none was intended, the person certainly has thin skin (is too sensitive).

  • I'm not offended in the least, now that I know the explanation.
    .
Without knowing that it was unintentional and part of your software, I just figured it was yet another of the insults being slung in the direction of the flat earthers here. You can't blame me for not knowing the inner workings of your software.
    .

    .
Now that I know that the sub-sub fora are called "child boards" of their sub-fora I couldn't care less. Sorry for being "thin-skinned" but you might find yourself in the same mindset if you were on the receiving end of nonstop ridicule.
    .
    .
The flat earthers here are incredibly thoughtful people. I simply cannot say the same of the ball-earth adherents.

  • If those who believe they are so smart to insist the world is flat should be smart enough to turn the Child board into a positive.

    But ... I wonder now ... and ...

Perhaps they are not even Catholic, or they should have been inspired by the word of God.

"Amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as littlechildren, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."
    [Matthew 18:3]
    Please pray for my soul.

So, then what's your excuse, Myrna?
    .
    .
You cannot humble yourself to the level of a child to believe the Word of God when it comes to the flat earth He made?
    .
    .
No flat earther here is saying they are SO SMART. They are saying the believe:
    1. The Bible
    and
    2. Their eyes.

    .
Not a lot of smarts required, but humility? YES.

    RIGHT.
    .
    .
The theological definition of faith requires one to give their intellectual assent to the Truths which God has revealed in the Deposit of Faith.
    .
    .
Therefore, Truth is Eternal is right: you don't have a choice.

  • Catholics who have accepted the truth of the flat earth are the truly humble because they have had to let go of any desire for human respect. Truly, they have let it go. There is no human respect shown here to those who hold the truth of God's design of His Creation.

You're just gonna hurt yourself trying to wrangle sense from one who thinks in memes, platitudes and whatever is on the back of a Buick.
