Okay, now I get it. Perfectly logical, right?
NASA saw their video of an astronaut hitting with a hammer without any noise and some clown made the executive decision to add the sounds of hammer impact to make the thing appear realistic to simple viewers who can't manage to put A and B together. 
He argued that NASA doesn't need their comprehension of what space is like; what NASA needs is government funding.
The attention of the audience could make or break the space program's funding, you know.

After all, who's going to watch astronauts slamming stuff with a hammer if the pounding noise is missing? 
Everyone likes to hit stuff with a hammer, and not infrequently just to hear the noise it makes!
Like monkeys do -- and most viewers are about as cognizant as monkeys; but we need their tax money!

So NASA really blew it trying to satisfy the mind-numbed audience..................THEREFORE THE EARTH IS FLAT.
