https://aleteia.org/2019/05/28/scientists-explain-how-can-we-destroy-the-myth-that-faith-opposes-science/Here are a few quotes from today's Church and science:
Dr. Barr writes
It is a myth that science and faith don’t go together. Partly, it comes from ignorance of scientific history. The Scientific Revolution was made by people of faith, such as Kepler, Galileo, Pascal, and Newton [don't forget Lyell and Darwin].
The first SCS conference, for example, dealt with “Origins” — of the universe, of habitable planets [a long-time Pythagorean condemned heresy], of life, of species, and of human language. The theme of the 2019 conference, which will be held in early June, is “What does it mean to be human?” There will be talks on topics ranging from
Neanderthals to genetic engineering.
Whole branches of science were founded by Catholic priests, Big Bang cosmology (Georges Lemaître).
The attitude of scientists for centuries was captured by this prayer of Kepler: “I thank you, Lord God our Creator, that you have allowed me to see the beauty in your work of creation.” It remains the attitude of many scientists today.
Here is the real Kepler;
‘[Kepler], with strongly cabbalistic, mystical and metaphysical inclinations, was the only notable figure of seventeenth-century science who keenly reacted, and for theological reasons, to Bruno’s cosmological speculations.’ [for which he was burned at the stake]
‘Like some of the Pythagoreans, Kepler agreed that the Earth is a living animal, animated by a rational soul. He recognised similarities between Pythagorean claims and those of the legendary Hermes Trismegistrus.’
Jonathan I. Lunine writes:
First, we must convince those Christian brothers and sisters who reject certain key discoveries in science — the ancient age of Earth and cosmos and natural selection as a driving force that evolves species — that these are solidly established and not in conflict with faith. Books by Kenneth Miller and the “Thomistic Evolution” group are helpful in this regard.
You can read on. Church and Science since 1741-1835 is the reason why the Catholic faith is no longer supernatural. Naturalism is the new faith.
