To play devil's advocate, I'd say this is real footage of a fake capsule splashdown. There are too many cuts; no continuous angles or shots. How easy is it to drop a prop from an airplane with real parachutes. We never do see recovery of any actual people, either.
Unless I missed it, there are no transitions from the capsule and parachutes splashing to the recovery vessels. When viewed in context (starting at 1:25:36), you'd have to claim the entire footage is CGI, not just the splashdown. It's odd that the female announcer claims this is from "Megan" the recovery vessel a few miles away. It looks way closer, like from a drone.
From parachute deployment to capsule recovery is the longest uncut shot from the full "live" coverage. I think it's the drone movements that give the illusion similar to a camera in rendering software. Being independent of any real physical placement causes it to look more like a video game. The harsh midday sun gives it an odd look, too.
Weta digital can render near lifelike water and the cloth simulations in Houdini are cutting edge, but the water in this footage is just too good. It's extremely hard to render real water, especially when interacting on a small scale within a large scale of the ocean. 1:27:51, especially.
Fake yes, CGI I don't think so.
