On the adherence to theistic evolution, I would wager they are attempting to fence sit between holding to Genesis and the fact that any anti-evolution scientist is made a pariah in the modern age. A.N. Field's The Evolution Hoax Exposed provides into the aforementioned blacklisting, ie scientific journals publishing works on evolution without solid evidence and ignoring works/criticisms of evolution.

On Darwin there a few motives, ie pride, and these are also exposed in the book. For instance when another scientist has a similar theory to Darwin, he complains to his friend that the competing theorist has better navigated the holes in the theory in the way he presents it.

Right now I'm looking at a moon lit up from the direction of the ground by a sun that has set below the horizon.

While some may observe that they think they see too far, or the horizon looks flat while someone tells them it's flat, so the earth must be flat, I see a sun set below the horizon without shrinking in size & fading away as if becoming more distant. I see a moon lit from the same direction as where the sun went, underground so it would appear. I know that if as I observe this last night I were to call someone on the other side of world in China, they would tell me the sun is up.
