    They are in the form of saying the earth does not move.

    So they are verses on the non-movement of the earth, which is about its (lack of) movement.

    You've probably never heard about how the Church had a big problem with Galileo partly because he said there were imperfections in the sun, when the Church had long held that the sun as well as all the stars in the heavens were unchangeable.
