  • Wilderness: ferns are very absorbent. Native Americans used to line papoose boards with them. I've used them wwhile hiking.

    Indoors:
For each member of the household, prepare 5 x 5 inch squares of absorbent cotton cloth, as from old t-shirts, etc. Try to set a color code for each person for sanitation control.

When you visit "the throne", there should be a bucket of soapy water with a little bleach in it handy. Do your thing, use your cloth, then soak it in the little bucket.  It is a good idea for each person to have their own bucket, but with kids you might have to just have one for the family.

twice a day- morning and evening- rinse out the cloths (use rubber gloves) and drop them in the laundry.

You may want to have as many as a hundred squares per person in order to be sure you have enough if you do a laundry only once a month. Most people will only need to go three or four times a day but you never know....

This really isn't that radical. It is just a slight adjustment of the old-fashioned method of handling infants' diapers back in the old days....

  • No way, Jose! I'm too disgusted by poopoo. Anything that has poopoo on it gets thrown away.

  • OH! now I get it!  :roll-laugh1: :stare:

I was posting according to the "Bunker" description:

    Quote
Traditional Catholic bunker - share personal anecdotes, news stories of economic hardship, survivalist tips, rapid price increases, scarcity, outages, vandalism, foreclosures, job losses, etc. In Greater Depression of 2009, we need to share valuable info!

I read a blog somewhere where the writer was really worried about what people could do when such basic supplies run low, and I thought it might be a good addition to the Bunker's store of knowledge, that's all.

I'm a country girl. I did not realize some folks would go all-fetishy over this.

    Sorry....   :laugh1:

  • No, you're completely "in the right" on this one, littlerose.

You're posting EXACTLY what should be here.

Boniface was having a little fun (to put it nicely), but I removed those posts and you'll notice he won't be posting anymore.

    God bless,

    Matthew

  • Oh, was Boniface actually Sebastien? I sensed that Sebastien was not real, but I did not suspect Boniface.

Well, there's another tip about how high you can pile manure before it hits the fan.

Southerners don't get it, but northerners usually do:

you can pile frozen cow-flaps almost six fieet before the pile tips over, but wet ones slide after about four feet.

Thus, the common Northern farm set-up in which cattle are kept in enclosed barns with a big fan at one end gave rise to the saying after some lazy folks did not move the frozen pile before the thaw......

    Another important Survivalist consideration    :farmer:
