  • I play the piano and the organ well, and I am trying to teach myself how to play the alto recorder at the moment. I'm also trying to find someone to teach me how to play a Vietnamese instrument that is sort of like a violin with only one string. I think that I may try to teach myself guitar as well. I've also played a real harpsichord once!  :smirk:

Does anyone else play anything or sing?

  • I started on keys, but was not any good.  Immediately excelled at guitar, but I sold them as I discovered the Faith, since they were occasions of sin to me.  I had been a hard rock/metal player for nearly a decade.  Sold the bass also and the drums.  I was no good on the drums. :barf:

I have recently considered getting another acoustic guitar, though.  I think I could resist the temptation to "riff out".  My fingertips would be pretty wimpy by now though, since I haven't played since early last year.

I sing Gregorian Chant when nobody's around - so almost never.  I enjoy it much more than I ever enjoyed singing evil metal songs though and it's much easier on the throat - not to mention it feels incredibly natural.

I'm working on Dies Irae and next I believe it shall be St. Thomas' Pange Lingua.

  • Did you pen Satanic lyrics CM?

I used to listen to heavy metal at the time when I was "Christian" but not Catholic because, even though it was against God, at least it was religious in theme, you know, it's actually about hell and the souls in torment and rebellion and so on.  Lots of heavy-metal bands don't deny God; they just hate Him.

I thought that I could get insights about the devil and witchcraft from that stuff.  I had major overcuriosity.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

Ever see the movie Flash Gordon from 30 years ago?  Music by Queen.  Great movie.  I remember watching it in my dad's trailer on New Years eve in 1980.

  • I like the Flash song when he is riding to the rescue at the end....a bit campy movie, but fun....at least a clear right/wrong message, unlike much of movies today....

  • Another one bites the dust, backwards is "start to smoke marijuauna".  Definitely demonic.  Just jump to 1:05 so you can skip most of his fαɢɢօt dancing.

I wonder if roscoe likes queen?

And no, Don, I never saw it.

  • I play 5 string banjo and ukulele's.  I tune my banjo and baritone uke in open G so it's the same chords for both.  No I am not any good but I make a few pleasant sounds and enjoy playing folk music.

  • I can play the piano rather poorly and I was a professional opera singer for a number of years so I can (obviously) sing.  I would like to learn the bagpipes but don't really have time as yet.

  • I sing -- folk songs, Gregorian chant, etc.

My "hero" -- the one I look up to as a role model singing-wise, is John Gary. He had an enormous range, as well as a huge lung capacity, besides having a great tenor voice. He was of Irish descent. His singing ability justified his fame.

    From Wikipedia:

    Quote
Gary was considered by many to be one of the best crooners due to his extaordinary breath control and tonal quality of his voice. He had an exceptionally wide range of three octaves. His singing ranged from robust baritone to a high sweet tenor often in the same song. Many popular songs of the time were suited to his intimate style.

Considered handsome, personable, and very talented, Gary never quite became a household name. Possibly because his wide range was difficult for fans to sing along to; also his career peaked at the same time as the Beatles, whose unique popularity displaced the works of many artists of the time.

Gary was sometimes called the singer's singer because only another singer could fully appreciate what he was able to do with his voice. Most crooners were able to sing sweetly within a limited range, but Gary was able to carry what is known as a mezza voce up to beyond the staff. What often sounded like falsetto was almost always a legitimate tone.

One of his other talents was his seemingly endless supply of breath (no doubt aided by the fact Gary held several underwater swimming records). In addition to his impeccable phrasing, he artfully shaded words to convey the emotional content of the song. He was a crossover artist before the term was invented, and his 400 community concerts brought pop music to the concert stage. In 1960 he joined ASCAP and composed several popular songs. RCA has reissued some of his recordings and a 92-track, 4 CD box set is now available on the Collectables[1] label. Gary holds the record for the most anomalous single ever..."Cold". Number one on Billboard's Easy Listening chart, it never appeared among the 130 typical best sellers.

  • Another cowpie for CM. The truth is that one of the uses for Med MJ is as a treatment for asthma. It is also true that there is no scientific evidence that MJ causes cancer or any other disease.

CM is gettiing more and more like Raoul every day. At first he understood my MJ argument to be Biblical and supported my interpretation: now has shape --shifted.

  • I never said there was anything wrong with marijuana.  I said there is something wrong with GETTING HIGH.

Likewise, there is nothing wrong with wine.  There IS something wrong with getting drunk, i.e. mortal sin.
