  • Hello, I already posted this on health and nutrition but it seems to me that was not the proper place so I am posting here.
I am interested in growing a dwarf Gros Michel tree indoors in Michigan. I heard that dwarf banana trees can grow to be 5-8 ft tall.
What are some good grow lights that are 8 ft tall or more and what would you guys recommend for taking care of the plant?

I am actually being serious about banana trees lol. I would not grow marijuana since using it is a mortal sin.

I would dispute this. I think it is wrong to believe using marijuana is a mortal sin. As one who used to smoke marijuana a little as a young irreligious man, for me the effects were not as strong as alcohol. So if it is okay to drink wine then I see marijuana as on the same level. In my experience it did not cause me to black out or lose the use of reason as happens when you drink too much alcohol. I was told that in alcohol use, it is licit as long as it does not harm your ability to reason, but once it does it becomes sinful drunkenness, a little too far, venial, a lot too far, mortal, so I would say the same about marijuana. Is there a good pre-Vatican II teaching condemning all use of marijuana? If there is I have never seen it, and neither has roscoe and he knows all about this issue.

But now I am interesting in trying Gros Michel bananas.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

Marijuana was common in Mexico (hence the name), and I seriously doubt the Church would have seen a need to condemn this.  Different traditional cultures have natural substances with mild relaxation or narcotic effect.  The plant called qat (pronounced "kot", this word comes in handy when you're playing Scrabble) is chewed to mild effect in places like Yemen and Somalia.  Prior to the mid-20th- and 21st-century moral panic about it, I have a feeling the Church would have lumped cannabis, qat, and other things, into the same basic category, and would have had little if anything to say about them.  I once struck up a conversation with a guy from Eritrea on a trans-Atlantic flight and I brought up qat, asked if he ever used it.  He demurred and really didn't answer one way or the other.  Not sure whether this was Third World "beating around the bush" (no pun intended) or he just didn't want to talk about his recreational substance habits with a stranger.

When I first saw this thread (actually it's two separate threads), I will admit that I said to myself "ahem... grow lights are usually installed for... other things... cough cough".

    Enjoy your bananas.
