Welch's juice concentrate went from 83 cents to 88 cents.
6-pack of generic toilet paper went from 1.12 to 1.18.
Those are the only two that I noticed, but I think a lot of prices have been hiked.
-
I think that's their game plan, put everybody else out of business through low price points then jack them up when the competition is eliminated.
-
I go to my local Aldi each week. Since Aldi is not a store with wide ranging items for sale there really are no "impulse" buys. It has four aisles of the same stuff every week. I do not know if they are everywhere.
Anyhow, what used to cost me around $146.00 two years ago this time, now costs around $210.-230.00 each week.
-
Oh, one important thing. My meat used to be included for the most part in the $146.00, now with the exception of chicken I get my meat elsewhere. So it is really a greater increase when that is factored in.

I should update this --
Now it's $1.28 for the same 6-pack of TP, and they reduced the size from 200 sheets to 176 sheets per roll.

I won't set foot in commie mart.

At the Walmart near me, the prices are the same as Krogers,
a supermarket just half of the distance. So, I save 1/2 the
distance driving.
The quality of food at Krogers are far superior.
One thing the government hides when they release the
consumer price index every month, is the rising cost of
foods, and fuels.
-
shop at Krogers, I do at times or other chains.also, Trader Joes and Whole Foods...at times, Farmers markets

exactly, not really a "free market" is it!
not when competing against political buy offs, free land, little-no taxes and economies of scale

For some things, I like Aldi's too...not a huge selction, but not bad either,,,their brands are decent..

You must be hallucinating, for the government tells us that there was a slight decrease in cost of living last year.
Seriously, though, there are two things going on:
1) raising prices
2) decreasing the quantities (while keeping the packaging the same size)
I've recently purchased boxes of stuff, gone home to open the box and find to my disappointment that it was 2/3 empty.

why, se must always beleive the Govt, after all, they would not lie to say...bolster their won image and prevent discontent or anything....nooooo the Govt never lies or obstructs truth...speaking of hallucinations....... :fryingpan:

also, if more money is being printed with nothing to back it, out of thin air, then does this not cause the value to drop and cause prices to go up? seems enough economists would say yes......or am I seeing things when I read Libertarians, distributists, Kenysians,etc..all seem to agree in part......and the box of stuff, that has to do with???
baring mistakes in packaging, notice that stores are cuting back on actual sizes and quantities, but raising prices? :boxer:

Funny you should mention it, Matthew. I was just in Walmart buying toilet paper today. :laugh1: Great minds think alike.
I go to three different stores: Costco, Stop & Shop and Walmart. Certain things are cheaper at each place, so that's just how I do it.
-
you spend a lot of time and waste a lot of gas going to different places though.....in end, no savings really.
Support Mon and Pop stores and if none, go to a retailer other than Walmart whenever possible.....

Not really, I stock up. Like for example, I buy a dozen gallons of milk at Costco and put half in the freezer so I only have to buy it every other week. The milk here locally is twice what it is at Costco. Eggs are way cheaper too so, plus they keep well so I buy like 9 dozen at a time. Chickens are way cheaper... Big savings, really.
Support Mon and Pop stores and if none, go to a retailer other than Walmart whenever possible.....
Whenever possible, but we've got a house full of kids here. Gets expensive.
-
saving money in the long run will cost you..we need to look not to save a few pennies ,but quality for ourselves and our children.
Joseph Pearce makes a good point on this at the Eaten Alive conference, whole talk is on youtube

Hi Belloc,
Theoretically I can appreciate what you're saying and all. But realistically how many bellies do you have to fill every night? Just wondering.
Because what I do to try to save money isn't for pennies. It adds up. And I am not Mrs. Rockefeller, you know. I actually need the savings. We're trying to live on one income here in my house.

I bought some groceries at walmart the other day.
I was unimpressed with the prices.
I really expected it to be cheaper.

so you do not want to care about their future, that is what is about...support Walmart or somone else, is it really that more expensive to go to farmers market?? watch the Walmert movie, ignore some of the more liberal views, the facts alone are what is important.and no, it does not matter whow kids I have...I shop other than walmart for YOUR kids future and others..

Perhaps you're getting a little overly dramatic here?
support Walmart or somone else, is it really that more expensive to go to farmers market??
[/b]
Walmart by me doesn't sell produce. And the farmers market opens in June after school lets out. And there are no mom and pop stores in New Jersey anymore--not that I know of, anyway.. They all went out of business like in the 1960's. Nowadays the grocery stores are all chains store here. Where do you live that you have mom and pop stores?
watch the Walmert movie, ignore some of the more liberal views, the facts alone are what is important.
[/b]
For what? So I can have guilt complexes? I have enough guilt complexes already, don't need any more, thank you.
and no, it does not matter whow kids I have...
[/b]
It does matter to me how many kids I have, if I had one kid I could afford those chi chi stores...
I shop other than walmart for YOUR kids future and others..

Hey, how come my quotes don't work? Ooops, never mind there they are. :)
-
a lot of quotes, but hard to see where you are responding to my last posts.
What I am saying is that in the long term, supporting stores like Walmart that have a very deceptive marketing and business practices will hurt your children, no matter the short term.
also, the quality of food, GMO's,etc is not good for them.Shopping organically and/or locally will at least insure some better quality, esp since with a little digging, when can see if modified seeds were used, pesticides,chemicals,etc..
Theoretically...forget theory, utilize practice, a lot of people say "I like ___ in theory", is a cop out-and no, not trying to attack you or impute motives to you-but too many say this and it is often used as a excuse for inaction....a lot may say that about the faith, "its nice and all, but my family.." and no conversion..
watch the movie, ignore some blatently liberal folks, the facts alone were worth the video, and it is online youtbue for free..
you note Mom and Pops went out yrs ago-what does that say about chains? your neighbors buisnesses are gone, they are reduced to working for someone else, their kids turned over to day care centers and schools...
lastely, have no idea what a "Chi CHi store" is, but organics are not much more or less than Walmart....
if we do not change now, Walmert, with Chinese imports, wil lbe all we get.and what world is that for your chidlren......
by the way, have been in Whole Foods when a large family ddi sho there and they did not drive fancy cars nor look like wealthy people......have to shop at a chain, then find one with quality that is NOT a Walmart
-
"Chi CHi store" is a fancy or trendy store.
Edited to add: well, I could maybe become a breatharian (http://www.angelfire.com/stars3/breathe_light/breatharianism.html).
-
gotcha, like your new "arian" ism
-
Well, the other thing is this: how do you really know that the other stores are so altruistic and well intentioned? Do you think that Whole Foods shares our values? Who are they? What charities do they contribute to?
Look, I understand you're concerned with doing the right thing and I do respect that. But in this world, maybe I have enough to worry about already.

if you have children, you are busy, true, but dont you worry about their health? the products they use? eat?
walmart gets free land, little-no taxes and coaches their people to apply for socialized heatlh care...all that affects your children...
you are concerned where they go to church, right? who they are around there, right?
so why not any other facet of your life?
N one is talking about the stores being perfect, but they do not act and treat people like Walmart...tghe Whole Foods near me have a waiting list before and since the depression started for work..2 yrs ago, put in a pp for P/t work, no openings then or now...good benefits,etc..
Being Catholic also has to include how and where we shop and how those companies treat others, Catholicism does not stop at the door of the Church......
as to where does others give, easy enough to look into....
again, spend some time not here at CI, but watching the movie....
rmember, being a Catholic parent means educating self and family in every facet of life....no doubt you are busy, but soo too are the elitists out to poison your kids.....Walmart is also helping spearhead the RFID chip and help Govt test it...does that concern you? hope so...
no company is perfect, but walmart's track records is tax beenies, poor wages, poor benefits for employees.that is not something a Catholic can say "hey, I'm too busy" or "hey, dont care my kids have GM foods and cheap Chinese manufacturing"...being Catholic is not only beleif, but everyday practice....or it is not ones faith, really..
I understand that fiances are tight and you are very busy, but take what I say under consideration, also, watch the movie:

looking back at the title of this thread, something to think about...
Walmart targets stores to shut down, often times selling products at cost or even below, they are big enough to do this...no one else can make a living long and pay decent.
Most will not survive and then.walmart to the rescue, no one else left...
recall that scene with Stallone, he is in the future nad the only restaurants to survive are Taco Bells, no other choices..
with no other choices, you get no competition, prices are raised to whatever they want to and no where to shop to avoid poor quality merchandise......
as I have 5 walmarts within 20 minutes from me, not too appetizing, to pun.......Mom and Pop are not doing well, in turn, less quality driven marketeers.....the guy in the pew, recall, is mom and pop.....

The problem is that Whole Foods denies they are supporting Planned Parenthood but in fact they do.
