“Victory Gardens were also called War Gardens or Food Gardens, and they were fruit, vegetable and herb gardens planted at private residences and public parks in the UK, Australia, Germany, the US and during World War I and World War II.
During war time, governments encouraged their citizens to plant Victory Gardens to boost morale and to supplement their food rations by reducing pressure on public food supply.
In addition, people were also encouraged to keep chickens at home.”
