  • Depressing scenario. I wish I could pack up and move near Father Girouard out in the mountains. Good to have a priest nearby when death looms.
Plus he could help me by constantly re-loading my firearms as we fight off the hordes! :cowboy:

More gun banning to take effect up here in Canuckistan once a newly passed bill becomes law. Gun sales are up!

  • In a scenario that he is talking about most people would die. The theme of "post apocalypse survival" used to be big in the media but is dying down thank God. I hate it because most people will be a statistic, even people who are kitted up. I agree completely with the guy in the video, without training you're going to die. Military training stresses you out and breaks you down till you are at your weakest and then forces you to make decisions and perform functions (like loading a weapon) automatic so that if you are in a real situation you will almost automatically make a decision or perform an action that will save your life. Without that training you will freeze or panic and then die. Not saying that every normal person will immediately die, not at all. A second factor that is very important is will. The stronger your will the more likely you will be to live, as you will be able to force yourself to fight a little longer, to walk a little further, or to hide in the mud until the danger passes. Will is almost as important as training. I'd say the normal civilians that live will be those who have the strongest wills. Sadly in our culture (even traditional Catholics) have no interest in training and building up their will. Which can be done easily; hitting to the weightroom, going for a hard run, or reading a difficult book. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Get back on that soap box!

What do you think about expatriation?  What are the best options?

Is there anywhere to go, or is the entire planet an open air prison now?

  • I would say it depends on the threat. But you need 3 basics to survive pretty much anything. Without these you're sunk. 1. You need a plan: I mean specifically an escape plan. If you live in the suburbs great! figure out which roads will be blocked in a time of crisis and have a way around them, for example. Always have a place to go to outside of large population centers, even if that is a rural town. As an aside, Appalachia is probably a good place to go, in all Soviet war simulations any ground invasion of the US stalled in the Appalachian mountains. 2. You need kit: It doesn't have to be super Gucci or anything. Just as simple as a good first aid kit with gauze and a tourniquet at least. You would be surprised at how effective even a simple medical kit can be. Also have food (dehydrated) and water, or water purification capabilities. Weapons? depending on the scenario they could get you in more trouble than you already were in or they could save your life. 3. Friends: You cannot do anything by yourself. Friends with your neighbor? Awesome! get tight with each other. Alternatively, join a survival group. Even your local Dungeons and Dragons club could be the difference between life and death. I say this because people are comfortable with what they know. If you are part of a social circle or group (which everyone is), team up in the apocalypse and life will be much easier because you already have an established team who have a group dynamic and a leader.

All of this being said there are 1000 ways to die and all of them have specific methods you can use to live. But if you have training and/or will and they things I listed above you will have a higher chance of survival than everyone else.

  • I watched a video made by a former marine who talks about survival and SHTF scenarios.  He said that during a work project he met a young man, a former special forces guy, and one day they chatted about his story.  The marine said that he asked the special forces guy his advice on prepping and bug-out scenarios for a single person vs a family and all of that.  The marine said that after listening for a long while, the special forces guy said "i'll give you the best advice I know.  This is how I survived all of my dangerous missions."  He looked the marine in the eyes and said, "All of your plans won't work.  You and your family are already dead."  The marine backed up and said, "What?"  He was not expecting such pessimism.  The special forces guy repeated, "You are going to die.  You and your family are not going to survive.  Make peace with this idea and you might make it through the chaos.  If you're constantly worried about dying, you won't make the right choices, the bold choices, that survival requires."
    .
The marine ended his video by saying it's the best survival advice he's ever gotten.

  • Folks, my advice to you is, above all things, stay in a state of sanctifying grace. Make acts of perfect contrition constantly and you will have peace of mind and God willing, win the real battle.
For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

:applause:As a I once heard a priest respond when questioned about prepping and Catholicism, “So you emerge from your bunker, guns blazing, with 6000 cans of Lima beans to ensure your survival...to what end?”

    Exactly.
The people who put out videos like that are obsessed with death. Catholics do not worry death, they know that only God can take them, and that He knows what is best for us.

Stupid rhetorical question from a priest so poorly formed that he didn't have a grip on Baltimore Catechism #1 deserves a serious answer.

Add to that: pray 15 decades of the rosary every day.

Context, gentlemen!  Yes, the priest was being sarcastic in response to a immature young man who wanted permission to build a SHTF bunker on chapel property.  The young man didn’t seem to understand the word, “No.”
