This is an article I wrote for my Substack page. War is ugly, but it has its redeeming aspects. I do not figure that most of you will read the six-part article contained in the American Ecclesiastical Review, so I have at least posted this pithy article on Fr. Francis Sampson, a priest from Des Moines, Iowa. The movie, Saving Private Ryan was actually based upon his life. He served as a chaplain in World War II.

The real story. I’m sure someone can do a movie about what really happened.
