I think the belief that martial arts allows women to project strength is delusional.
Women should try to avoid walking alone. That makes more sense.
Well, you're entitled to your opinion, certainly. And yes, it makes a lot more
sense for them to avoid walking alone. I have been honored many times
when a woman has asked me to walk her to her car or wherever. Men
should always oblige such a request, it is our duty as gentlemen, and do
not chide them or act as if it is frivolous. Be upright and proud that you
have been given the honor. In fact, we should look for the opportunity to
do this and offer our service when the way is desolate or there have been
incidents of crime recently. When the "big crash" happens, you would
likely forbid your wife or daughter to walk alone, anywhere.
At the same time, of all the women I've ever known who have studied
the martial arts, not one of them has ever been attacked, but for two.
Nor do they know of anyone like them who has, although there are two
exceptions, and in both cases, the attacker was overcome, one of them
died due to mortal injuries at the bare hands of the woman. She was
Korean. And Korean martial arts take no prisoners.
Fr. Pheiffer says in his most recent sermon that in the days of Elias, a
woman said that she knew he was a prophet by the way he walked past
her house every day. She had never known him, spoken to him, nor heard
what he had said or written, but she knew he was a prophet because of
the manner of his movement and posture alone, as he walked. He says
that the priest is a man of God, and he exudes Godliness in his very way
of walking. Now, if a woman who has studied how to defend herself
with her own hands projects no image of strength by her appearance,
then how can what Fr. Pheiffer say about priests and/or prophets be true?
