  • Unlike many in my age bracket, I AM aware of my projected SS payments-IF it hasn't gone bankrupt, IF I work through age 67.  I'll get $592 per month.  Anyone know of a place I can live on that?  Home Depot has some cute tool sheds that look like houses!  Anyone willing to share your land?  Help install a fireplace or run a long elec. cord?  AARP never asked me, but I plan to work until I drop.  It's more Catholic anyhow!  Posted from the middle of nowhere from my vacation villa -  the canvas condo.  :-)   I'm not complaining.  I have waterfront property, a nice air-mattress,  a campfire, pit-toilet,  fresh spring water,  private beach/bathing facility, peace and quiet.  I stayed dry despite a torrential storm yesterday.  The only modern technology is a "hotspot" in a H2O proof box hoisted in a tree.  Works great!
All of us survivalists by default need to learn wild-crafting for medical care.  What better place than the hills of West Virginia?

:guitar:---------"Country roads, take me home, to the place, I be-looo-ong,West Virginia, Mountain Mama, take me home, country roads....."
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

    How old are you?

That number sounds way too low...

Also, there are *countries* where 600/mo wouldnt be so bad, not sure about here in the states though...anywhere. :)

  • The big problem isn't necessarily with the one individual retiree, it's with the system as a whole.  We are within several years of the majority of still surviving baby boomers entering retirement and being eligible for Social Security.

The baby boomers decided to have families much smaller than in previous generations so the ratio of worker to recipient is something like 2 - 1.  Maybe 3 to 1.  It will soom be 1.25 to 1.  Then even 1 to 1.

Government programs work great with a surpluss of people paying in to them.  Government programs, like government in general, is sloppy and almost always more expensive than advertised.  They are inefficient.

    It's going to be bumpy.

We can hope that the new wave of immigrants will be great producers and really contribute greatly to the tax base but, in reality, they generally are tax consumers who sign up for as many programs as possible and actually go to very great and creative lengths to hide their income so they actually won't be paying taxes into the system.  It's the truth, and it's a hard truth.

Then again, it may not be all that bumpy at all.  Maybe these government agencies will just one day quietly close shop and disappear.

No, as hard as I pretend, it's going to be bumpy.
