 Texas allows religious services as "essential" during China Virus pandemic
Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:07 AM PDT

DAILYKENN.com -- The governor of Texas said religious services are essential in his state. That effectively exempts them from stay at home orders.

What do you think? Should your state allow religious services?

From dailysignal.com ▼

Quote
“‘Essential services’ shall consist of everything listed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in its Guidance on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce, Version 2.0, plus religious services conducted in churches, congregations, and houses of worship,” the order stated. “Other essential services may be added to this list with the approval of the Texas Division of Emergency Management.”

* What do you think?

Sorry for the photo of the Protestant Service since they are the majority in Texas.

  • They are not the only state for which this is true.
    .
    People whose priests are cancelling mass should encourage the priests to actually contact civil authorities to see what the law says about churches.  I know of one situation at least where the law was completely reticent about religious gatherings, and further contact with state officials revealed that they were regarded as essential-- only, the state didn't want to come out and make that abundantly clear to the public.  What happens then is that churches simply assume they aren't essential and shut down.
    .
    Talk to your priests.  Don't let them assume that their states regard them as non-essential.  (of course, I realize with Fr. Wegner basically telling all his priests to stop saying public masses, even if a given SSPX priest's state regards him as essential, it might be a moot point for SSPX attendees.  But maybe not.).
    "Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • If they can do it in a way that keeps everyone healthy and minimizes the spread of this as much as possible, then it's a good idea.
    Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary...
