Via: Alamogordo Daily News:
The Sunspot Observatory is temporarily closed due to a security issue at the facility that’s located 17 miles south of Cloudcroft in the Sacramento Mountains Friday, an Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) spokeswoman Shari Lifson said.
“The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy who manages the facility is addressing a security issue at this time,” Lifson said. “We have decided to vacate the facility at this time as precautionary measure. It was our decision to evacuate the facility.”
She said she cannot comment on the specifics of the security issue.

Otero County Sheriff Benny House said the Otero County Sheriff’s Office was asked to standby.
“The FBI is refusing to tell us what’s going on,” House said. “We’ve got people up there (at Sunspot) that requested us to standby while they evacuate it. Nobody would really elaborate on any of the circuмstances as to why. The FBI were up there. What their purpose was nobody will say.”
He said he has a lot of unanswered question about what occurred at Sunspot.
“But for the FBI to get involved that quick and be so secretive about it, there was a lot of stuff going on up there,” House said. “There was a Blackhawk helicopter, a bunch of people around antennas and work crews on towers but nobody would tell us anything.”
The Daily News contacted the Albuquerque FBI spokesman seeking comment for this story, but telephone calls and messages were never returned.
House said he pulled his deputies from the facility after there was no identifiable threat.

“They wanted us up there to help evacuate but nobody would tell us anything,” he said. “We went up there and everything was good. There was no threat. Nobody would identify any specific threat. We hung out for a little while then we left. No reason for us to be there. Nobody would tell us what we’re supposed to be watching out for.”

Perhaps a flat-earther called in a bomb threat. (For our British friends, that means "a scare.") Flat-earthers really hate observatories AND sunspots, so an observatory NAMED "Sunspot Observatory" would be a super-objectionable entity to flat-earthdom syndromers.
.
If it turns out that's what happened, this thread will have to get moved to "The Earth God Made" ghetto!

.
Mistake:
The name of the observatory is the National Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak, and "Sunspot" is the name of the town nearby. If you send mail to the observatory it has a Sunspot address, and the Post Office is right down the road from the observatory.
.
Apparently a lot of locals refer to it as "Sunspot Observatory" even though that's a misnomer.
.
There is very little online about this evacuation and no statement from the FBI regarding their involvement.
.
Rumors abound, regarding UFOs, secret ops, drilling noises, mercury leaking (the observatory is said to have tons of mercury on site for specific purposes but mercury has since been deemed an environmental hazzard). But officials are not providing any answers. No one seems to know where the evacuees went and they're not available for comment, for 3 days now. The observatory was closed as well as the Post Office and some nearby residences evacuated, but no reason is being announced.
.
Have you ever heard of an evacuation of a geographical area without any official explanation?
.
No source I could find mentioned the fact that tomorrow is the 17th anniversary of 9-11-2001.

This story is extremely weird.
Entire topic shrouded in mystery.
Close to a week later and still no information.  ???
This is like the murder of Fr. Alfred Joseph Kunz in 1998, only difference is then we knew there was a crime committed.
Here is a new article in the Albuquerque Journal, with the news that there is NO NEWS.
The thing is packed with "NO COMMENT" references.
Evacuees still missing?
No returned phone calls?
No explanation?
What's going on??!??

Closure of NM solar observatory a mystery

.
The truth is out there – but nobody will go on the record about it.
Rumors are swirling and authorities are tight-lipped following the evacuation of an observatory in southwest New Mexico last week.

.
The National Solar Observatory in Sunspot, near Alamogordo, was evacuated last Thursday, along with a nearby post office, and has remained closed since without explanation.

.
According to the facility’s website, the observatory and surrounding area are closed until further notice “due to unforeseen circuмstances.”
“The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy is addressing a security issue … and has decided to temporarily vacate the facility as a precautionary measure,” AURA spokeswoman Shari Lifson said in a statement. “We have no further comment at this time.”

.
In the Lincoln National Forest, the observatory has been involved in solar research since 1947. Since the closure, the news has spread nationwide with headlines like “I’m Definitely Not Saying It’s Aliens,” and lighting up internet message boards with fervor and speculation.
.
Lifson said AURA is working with the proper authorities, but would not name them.
The closure even caught Otero County Sheriff Benny House by surprise.

.
“Some folks that work at the laboratory called us, asked us if we could send a deputy to stand by while they were evacuating,” House said during a phone interview Wednesday. “All the employees were packing up and leaving.”
.
House said they didn’t get any more answers at the observatory, but staff members told deputies the FBI had been there.
“Nobody would give us any information on what was going on,” House said, before the phone call cut out and repeated attempts to reach him again were unsuccessful.

.
FBI spokesman Frank Fisher would not confirm or deny the agency’s involvement but referred all questions to AURA.
U.S. Postal Service spokesman Rod Spurgeon called the situation “strange” after authorities walked into the nearby post office without warning and told the clerk to evacuate.

.
“I wasn’t present … so I’m not sure which law enforcement agency told us to evacuate,” Spurgeon said.
He said no timeline was given on when the office would be able to reopen.
.
Spurgeon said he is waiting on a call, but doesn’t know from whom as he has not heard from any authorities or agency.
“It’s shrouded in mystery,” he said.
An employee at the nearby Apache Point Observatory said they are also in the dark.
“We know about as little as anybody,” the employee said.

.
The employee said people in the area have seen unknown authorities hovering in helicopters and driving up in vehicles.
“Nobody would know who they are – you stop them and they won’t tell you anyway,” he said.

.
The employee said there is not enough information to “worry about it,” but the mystery continues to deepen among locals.
“That’s what happens when you do something and don’t tell anybody why,” he said.

.
If the observed people hovering in helicopters and driving up in vehicles are unknown and won't identify themselves, how does anyone really know they are "authorities?"

I wonder what their motives are. Are the other major Solar Observatories still open? I've heard rumours they might be trying to cover-up the signs of another Carrington Event.

Well I'd certainly hope the real authorities would have enough cop on to know whether or not these "unknown authorities" should be there or not, and deal with them if they shouldn't be.

I just heard they evacuated the entire town.  Perhaps something fell around there and they don't want anyone to find it.

Who knows, no one that will tell us!

Yet, wonder why all those other observatories closed, all over the world or is that just clickbait?
Please pray for my soul.

Would that be a round planet X or a flat planet X?

Who said the entire town was evacuated?
What other observatories were closed?
Some sources question why there have been no other observatories evacuated.
I've seen nobody saying there have been other closures.
In fact, since there are numerous solar observatories worldwide, they're all watching the sun, so if something were happening on the sun that is of great relevance to this National Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak evacuation, what would that be?

And how would the "cop on" know to do anything about it if they can't see the "unknown authorities?"

.
Journalists looking into this story have reported that all the other observatories they have contacted are still open, and they have no information to offer regarding the Sacramento Peak solar observatory.
.
There are lots of rumors of all kinds, but there are no answers. Nobody in the town of Sunspot knows what's going on, either.
Rod Spurgeon (someone whose job it is to know what's going on) can't say who ordered the Post Office clerk to evacuate.
He says he wasn't there himself so he has no idea who or what agency closed the Post Office.
Someone managed to shut down a US Post Office but without the involvement of the Postal Service?
Since when does that happen?
Any "unknown authority" who interferes with the US Mail commits a Federal Crime, punishable by Federal Prison time.
Something isn't adding up.
.
Everyone involved (outside of the mysterious, unidentified "unknown autorities") wonders what their motives are.
.
The one thing there is none of, is answers.

Notice, AURA admits to having closed the observatory. However, the Post Office down the street was evacuated by an "unknown authority" that nobody, not even the local Sheriff can identify. It is a Federal crime to interfere with the Postal Service, but here an unknown entity has interfered with the operation of an entire office of the Postal Service and nobody has anything to say about it.
.
What is wrong with this picture?
