  • Dear Friends from the Forum,

I just wanted to give you a heads up that things are starting to get really busy on the farm for the summer.  So, I will not have as much time to visit the forum.  That being said, you will still be in my prayers.  I wish you all the best!

In the Hearts of Jesus and Mary,

  • For us, winter approaches. We are soon headed for warmer climes where internet access will be restricted. Not a bad thing really. But I won't be going "cold turkey". Please pray for our safety, thank you!

  • Do you do dairy, or pigs, or sheep, or goats?

Or do you have a truck farm with varieties of veggies?

Or do you have a horse farm with lots of hay?

Either way, it's a lot of wonderful, sanctifying work.

Try not to get the tractor stuck in the mud. :P

I sprayed a bunch of weeds with crossbo last week.  I've been working on poisoning some stumps.  Hope to burn them down to the roots in August.

We have a horse farm with lots of hay!   ;D
We also have a 1/4 acre garden and we have SO MANY strawberries ripe right now!  We have probably processed about 40 quarts of them!  The blueberries are almost ripe now too, and we have about 10 bushes about 5 ft. tall and 5 ft. wide!  There always seems to be something that needs to be done on a farm!
Yeah...  We definitely get the tractor stuck in the mud from time to time.  We especially had a lot of trouble last year because the 4-Wheel Drive went out and it rained a lot!  ::)

You are so fortunate to have a farm. May I ask about how you use the horses? My great-great grandfather (who died before I was born) had a hay farm next to lake Pond Oreille in Idaho. He used horses to pull the ice house on to the lake in the winter for ice fishing. That was in the 1920's and '30's when it was cold in the winter. He farmed until he was in his early 90's.

Are you able to sell anything that you grow?

We use the horses for lessons, trail rides and camps.  We also do boarding for horses and host "horse parties".    ;D

(I recently uploaded the "Meet the Horses" page information.

Most of what we grow goes into the freezer or is passed on to friends.  We don't have quite a big enough garden to go commercial.    :)

Thank you for your reply. I had a look at your website. It's really a wonderful service that you offer - horseback riding - which can be very therapeutic. I rode horses a lot when a teen in California, but then California is a horse state. Where I live now in Washington state - not so much.

It seems that is you're main work or focus on your farm. Caring for horses is a lot of work, but very valuable. God bless you for the work that you do! No need to reply, since I'm sure you are very busy.

My father grew up in Washington State, and we are going out for a family reunion in the beginning of July!!!  What a small world it is!!!   ;D

Actually, the reason I have been able to post now is because I have the week off to prepare and relax for camp.  I shall be out of town visiting a traditional Catholic family for most of the week, but have a little time to here before that!  Hurray!  :)

It is indeed a small world, especially since Washington state is on the other side of the country from VA.  :) I hope your reunion goes well. It's really nice weather here in the summer (on the green side of the mountains in western WA, anyway). The brown side, which I really like, is a little warmer!

My dad often speaks of the differences between the western and eastern parts of WA... ;)
Hope all goes well for you this summer!
