...I agree about finding a small farming community with a traditional culture and a Catholic history. ...

Please shout out if you find such a community. My bags are packed.

Emphasis on "community."  No single person, no single family can have all the skills necessary to do all and be all that is necessary.

If I find such a place, I'll post it here.

Meg, I have no idea why there are so many Freemasons in Washington.

If anyone here does know, please tell us.

In my quest for a suitable location, I arranged priorities according to necessity and then convenience. Water is a necessary resource, so it went to the top of my list (which was no easy task since I live in Southern California, Los Angeles area, the Cadillac Desert, and in a drought no less). So #1 was water for me, and without any doubt Mt Whitney in the Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains was more than suitable.

Next was #2 affordability and sustainability - keeping the initial cost down, which in turn keeps the reoccurring property tax low.   But these two priorities inversely effect the next priority, #3 accessibility.  In my situation, I was able to afford ten acres an hour away from the nearest city with stores and a hospital.  While I only need two or three productive acres, it quickly proved to be prudent to have a little more.

Sacraments are two hours from the property, but I imagine Father visiting from time to time since I know he loves nature, and the Bishop would be a bit closer to heaven at this altitude and for hunting.

I do not think that you can assign a priority to the necessary elements any more than you can assign a priority to different legs of a chair:

• sacraments
• clean water
• fertile soil
• energy (solar/hydro/wind)
• growing season
• fishing/hunting
• necessary skills provided by trustworthy people in a nearby community
• as little ZOG intrusion as possible

This site spotlights a wide gamut of properties:  https://www.survivalrealty.com/united-states/idaho/fsbo/small-cabin-on-15-acres/

Too bad that the SSPX has lessened the attraction of the Idaho panhandle for practicing Catholics.
