Congratulations on your engagement Jen. It gives me hope to find someone out there haha.

Anyway obviously the ideal would be that a wife and mother would stay home but the way this global economy works nowadays forces women into the workforce because the man is not paid enough. I think women could supplement the man's income by being a nurse, teacher, salesgirl, etc. at least until the third or fourth child comes along.

Catholics do not accomodate the world current needs. Women should stay home with their children right from the beginning unless there is a real emergency. It's Divine Law that wives and mothers must be home with their children. I agree with having maybe a home-business for extra income given that it does not interfere with wife and mother's duties but to work outside, that is a real disgrace. My grandfather would have been ashamed of having his wife work outside the home, and thus the little ones deprived from a mother's care and himself from a wife's devotion.

So happy for you and your husband to be, Jen! When is the big day?

Anyway your post is full of good ideas. I think you'll do well.

By the way, TG, the topic relates to stay-at-home wives. You obviously have no idea how much is involved in caring for a household, with husband and three or four children.

Unfortunately, over half the labor force is made up of women. That means that wages have been cut in half for men. In the 1950s and 60s a man could get a job washing dishes and could afford to buy a home. Now if you have a married couple and they are both dish washers they cannot even afford an apartment on skid row.

That is the reality.

Maybe your situation is different, but for the majority of people a two income family and leaving the kids in the care of strangers is the reality.

You obviously have no idea how hard it is to be a man, having to compete with women in the labor force.

Now if we can kindly get past this "I know more than you" derision, the economic facts are that unfortunately because of the economy even if a man works two jobs he will be unable to support his family.

Don't blame me for pointing out the obvious, blame the politicians, the banks and economists out there.
