  • “‘Life-Threatening’ Arctic Blast To Freeze
Nearly 200 Million As Polar Vortex Slams Midwest”
    by Tyler Durden

“A massive blast of Arctic air will hit the Midwest and Northeast by the middle of this week, bringing temperatures to their lowest levels in years. Using words such as “life-threatening,” “dangerous,” “brutal,” and “unprecedented,” the  is preparing us for the extreme cold that’s forecast to roar into the U.S. next week.”
“The coldest air of the season will plunge the upper Midwest and Great Lakes into life-threatening conditions,” noted the National Weather Service. According to the National Weather Service, the hardest hit zone will stretch from Minnesota and Iowa through Michigan – including Chicago, Detroit, Des Moines, Green Bay, Milwaukee and Madison.

The Chicago Weather Service office has predicted temperatures below zero for 60 consecutive hours – from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. “Only eight times since 1872 has Chicago recorded subzero highs on at least two consecutive days, the most recent being early February 1996,” it announced.

Milwaukee and Madison also face bone-chilling cold. In its forecast discussion for the region, the Weather Service wrote that the danger of the predicted temperatures “can’t be overstated,” noting they will be 30 to 40 degrees below normal. “For January, that’s incredible,” it said.

All of Wisconsin and Minnesota, along with much of northern Illinois is expected to remain below zero on Wednesday. “There’s no mild way of saying it. Brutal cold is coming,” said the National Weather Service, adding “It’s forecast as the prolonged coldest in at least 5 years, but potentially much longer.” “Temperatures can be held 20 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit below normal across most of the Midwest around midweek,”

That can equate to one to three days of subzero highs from Fargo, North Dakota, to Minneapolis and Chicago. Highs may reach only the single digits from St. Louis to Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. Records for the cold can be challenged both during the day and at night. “Latest indications are that Chicago could set a record on Wednesday for the day’s lowest high temperature,” . Temperatures have not been held below zero for an entire day in Chicago since Jan. 6, 2014.” –

The Northeast will receive a heavy dose of snow and freezing winds, along with heavy rain according to Hudson Valley Weather.  “We’ve got a VERY complex setup, with a monster dip in the jet stream, that will try to dig in, causing a coastal storm to develop.  The position, timing and strength are quite uncertain, and very key to our forecast. In short… snow could cause headaches Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning”.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to remain indoors, protect livestock, and prepare for things like frozen pipes and dead car batteries. Motorists should have a winter survival kit in case of a breakdown.”

    Ignore this is fake news.

What in the Sam Hill is this, RC?

Fake news? Are you drunk? It is actually going to be this cold here in the upper Midwest. Every single public school district in the Minneapolis metro is canceled today, which is a lot of schools. You live in Texas, their idea of cold is 20 degrees.
Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary...

  • It’s a nightmare here.... I’m praying for to find shelter. Police stations have opened up warning centers, and they are asking for more people to do so. They are packing shelters to the bursting point. We are in Illinois for the record.

What's wrong with staying in your own house?

Never "get on the train" (never give up your own autonomy and allow yourself to be disarmed because another place, or the "authorities", are "looking out for your well being").

Croix/quid/judith, homeless people. They need shelter. Not homeowners or those lucky enough to have a place to call home.

I understand that reasoning, but the way you structured your comment, it seemed as if you were praying to find shelter for yourself/family.

  • The word homeless was missed. You’re right.

But this cold is not a “don’t get on the train situation anyway”. Let’s not make God’s weather a conspiracy.

Let's be more analytical and critical. Just because the natural weather pattern (from the Lord God) isn't a conspiracy, doesn't negate the fact that the wicked in positions of authority will gladly and expeditiously use a crisis (natural disaster) to their own advantage. The Jєω Rahm Emanuel once said, "never let a crisis go to waste."

  • Winds are supposed to howl during this "vortex". There's a potential for widespread power outages. Get my drift?

  • Where I am at now in Southern Colorado and today there was 3" of snow and the temperature
is now 7 degrees above zero.

The last time there was a blizzard in this area was in 2007 and started a day after Christmas.   There was
5 feet of snow after three days.

They still have electricity and there was no interruption of power.

I was not here at that time. I heard stories of people digging themselves out of their homes after the snow stopped.
The older homes and buildings their roofs collapsed.

It was 6 degrees above 0 where my son is in Ohio yesterday. "Not fake news."

  • A cold front blew in last night -- we had really high winds where we live.

Now it's 37 degrees and it's only going to make it up to 53 today! And tonight it's going down to 37.

    Brrrr!

(I'm in Texas by the way, and I'm joking here...I know these temps aren't cold. I'm from Illinois so I know what real cold is)

  • Talked to a post office guy today about the crazy weather all over the country.  He said he hopes it gets cold enough, for long enough, to kill all the bugs.  2 yrs ago in the Midwest/south, he said it didn’t get cold enough and ticks were a huge problem the next summer.

He grew up in southern Michigan and said that when he was younger (he’s probably 50ish), everyone has snow mobiles and if you didn’t, you couldn’t survive.  Nowadays only those in really northern Michigan have snow mobiles.  The south doesn’t need em.

    Crazy weather all around.

  • The air literally hurts your face right now. I went out for two seconds... they are saying to not let kids be out longer then four minutes, and to put them right into a heated car if you are going somewhere. It’s extremely dangerous for them..

So, we are practicing our homemaking skills, and working on American history, English, reading, and most importantly memorizing our prayers.
