  • About a 1916 Irish uprising martyr who gets married before he is executed by the British. True story.

  • Song of 18 year old volunteer who was executed for his part in uprising.
(All republican ballads are based on true stories.)

  • I love the Wolftones. They are very moving, I find the vocals very "gutsy." All of my children love them too.

That said, I thought this thread was about songs for moving, as in changing your home. I thought "Well, I hope to be moving soon, I should check that out. Maybe I can make a playlist for packing boxes."

Not that kind of moving, Mabel.  :fryingpan:

  • Sean South sung by the Wolfe Tones would be a good addition to those which have already been posted. I'm not so good with computers so I can't put in a link to a youtube video, but there are several recordings on youtube for anyone that would like to hear it.

  • The Rising of The Moon. One thing I like about Irish music is that it's not all sappy love nonsense but has to do with fighting living & dying with honour, in short about everything that the pleasure-worshipping modern world despises & fears.

True, but I wouldnt call them "moving" songs, maybe because i am not interested in the political nationalistic struggle. I am moved by gregorian chant always, but not by irish ballads really.

  • I am very much enjoying the Wolftones links, thank you.

My very first thought when I read the thread title was the Dies Irae

  • Perhaps when people post a song they should say how it makes them feel.
    That would be interesting.

My favourite Gregorian chant by the master Thomas Tallis.
Several different choirs attempt this song, and in the song 40 individual voices sing separate lyrics and at different paces. It makes me contemplate the endless praise offered by the saints before the throne of God.
